ANOTHER TESTIMONIAL FROM THE 2012 LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
June 20-22, 2013, Miami “Many thanks for introducing me to my very first CAFÉ event. Mark my words; this certainly is the beginning of taking advantage of many more events in the future. I do attend tons of conferences each year…Having said that, when I say that this year’s CAFÉ Leadership Conference was perhaps one of the most valuable if not the most valuable conferences I have ever attended, I am not exaggerating. It not only provoked me intellectually, but also opened my eyes to tons of resources that I perhaps would not have come to know if I had not attended the event. The networking opportunity it afforded me over a period of three days was priceless. Please accept my heartiest congratulations for hosting such a fabulous conference and I look forward to being a part of the event again next year.” Vinne Rege, Howard County Community College
There are two prestigious awards that instructors/programs should be looking at for 2013.
The Idaho Potato Commission Award for Innovation recognizes programs that have shown advancement in how they help their students in the learning process and/or how they have improved their program as evidenced by methods that could be successfully duplicated in other foodservice-related programs.
This Award is open to both secondary and postsecondary programs. There is a first prize of $1,000 plus $500 in travel funds and a comp registration to the CAFÉ Leadership Conference where it will be awarded. There are two runners-up, each winning travel funds and comp registrations to the Conference.
The Committee asks for a narrative essay along with supporting documents. Find the full details of the application. There is no application “form,” however a cover sheet with the complete contact information should be sent along with the multiple copies required.
The CAFÉ/Kendall College Green Award is also available to both secondary and postsecondary individuals/programs that have shown progress and implementation of sustainability methods in their curriculum.
The winner of this prestigious Award receives $1,000 and a comp registration to the CAFÉ Leadership Conference.
Previous winners have shown the Committee their efforts ranging from a small aquaculture effort to full-scale restaurants. One of the first winners demonstrated an innovative composting program. Read past “Green Tomato” columns in the archives of “The Gold Medal Classroom,” CAFÉ’s online magazine, to get a sense of successful greening/sustainable efforts around the U.S. Get more information.
The deadline for both these awards plus the IPC and CAFÉ scholarships is April 1, 2013.
