The Meaning of Easter
Check out this video! It is one of the most relevant, informative, and easy to understand videos we've found to explain the story of Easter, from Jesus' ride into Jerusalem on a donkey through Passover and Jesus' Last Supper with His disciples, on through his arrest, Crucifixion, and Resurrection. This video does an awesome job relating the message to children (and adults!). Phil Vischer, creator of Veggie Tales, narrates the most important Christian message in this episode of his video series "What's In the Bible?"
Resurrection Rolls - a recipe
This is a delicious, hands-on recipe that reinforces the idea of the empty tomb. Your Easter weekend may already be full of festivities and sweet treats, but you can make these anytime. Use this as an activity to recall the events of the Easter story. (The above video is only 11 ½ minutes, giving you plenty of time to watch it with your kids as the rolls bake!).
-
One 10 oz. can of refrigerated crescent dinner rolls.
-
8 large marshmallows
-
melted butter (about 1/4 cup)
-
2 tablespoons white sugar
-
2 tablespoons cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Separate crescent rolls into individual triangles. In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar. Dip a marshmallow in the butter then roll it in the cinnamon/sugar mixture. Place the marshmallow on the dough, and carefully wrap the dough all the way around the marshmallow. Pinch the seams together tightly to seal in the marshmallow. (You can sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on the whole roll as well). Place on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven until golden brown, about 15
minutes.
This is a delicious, hands-on recipe that reinforces the idea of the empty tomb. Your Easter weekend may already be full of festivities and sweet treats, but you can make these anytime. Use this as an activity to recall the events of the Easter story. Take them out of the oven as a family, and notice what happened to the marshmallow. It creates an empty space, a reminder of the empty tomb!
We hope you enjoy these special moments with your family this Easter!
