PARENT CONNECTION

Faith tools for parents to help grow spiritual connections within the home

The Bible and your child
The Bible is a written account of messages and rules for our lives that came directly from God and is at the root of everything we teach in KidVenture.  All of our curriculum is grounded in scripture, and each lesson is built around one or more specific Bible verse.  These verses are listed on the papers that your child takes home from KidVenture and on the Theme Sheets that are available for each age group at each check-in kiosk. Be sure to take these resources home and post them where you and your child will see it throughout the week.

Kids & Bibles

When children meet in their Small Groups in KidVenture they spend time looking up specific Bible verses in a Bible.  They are actually opening up and reading from the Bible each week.  Children who are in 3rd Grade or older are asked to bring their own Bibles with them each week and are encouraged to actually mark verses with bookmarks, sticky-notes, or - YES - highlighters!  So, if your child tells you that they've been told it is OK to mark in their Bibles, they have.  It is important for us as Christians to build a foundation from which to grow in our knowledge and our faith.  One way to do that is by knowing where to go to find answers we seek.  When we make it easy to find things we have already learned about we have a tendency to go back to them, but if we don't make it easy, we tend to never go back.

Action Steps

This week, make a point of looking up at least one scripture verse with your child. Try looking it up in several sources - their Adventure Bible, a family Bible, or from an online resource (ideas listed below).  Notice the different wordings of each translation.  Discuss these differences with your child. Also discuss the importance of the verse - what God intended for us to learn from it (take-home papers from KidVenture often give tips for this).  For your reference, the Adventure Bible we use is written in the New International Version (NIV) while the Bibles found in our Worship Center racks are written in the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV).

Some of our favorite online Bible resources are:

  • BibleGateway.com passage look-up - A quick way to lookup a verse and view it in different translations.
  • YouVersion.com - If you are looking for a free Bible or Bible app, this is a fantastic choice! YouVersion allows you to look-up verses in different translations.  You can also create a free account (login) where you can highlight verses, take notes on passages, and even choose from hundreds of different Bible reading plans.

Trunk or Treat - 2010

**Trunk-or-Treat Needs Your Trunk**

We still need trunks!  Trunk-or-Treat will take place on Sunday, October 28 from 4:30-6 pm.  The event will happen rain or shine.  If needed, "trunks" (card tables) will be setup in the Atrium instead of the parking lot. Hosting a trunk doesn't need to be difficult.  Pick a theme, bring treats to give out, and come ready to have a great time!  Trunks should be parked in the east parking lot between 3 & 4pm. If you are interested in hosting a trunk, contact KidVenture@ConnectWithCalvary.org
