Sharing Is A Good Thing!

Once

How the West was

One is complete,  it truly will be a complete street with road sharrows for cars and cyclists and plenty of space for walking.

As the first stretch of Ferndale road to wear  a sharrow decal -- as compared to a dedicated bike lane -- both motorists and cyclists must learn to adjust their habits to accommodate each other.

For cyclists, the road sharrow means they can take the lane but should ride down the center of the arrow, when possible.

Motorists will need to adjust driving habits by being aware that cyclists might be present and, then, keeping a heads up when they do see them.

In addition to the road sharrows, there will be roadway signage indicating a shared situation.

More good news -- the road sharrows will continue on West Nine, east of the new pavement.

Construction Meeting
The next meeting will be on Oct. 17 at 11 am at the DDA Office, 149 W. Nine Mile. If you have questions are concerns prior to that meeting, please call the DDA at 248-546-1632.

Greetings!

The end is in sight but before we get there, please be advised -- this week TRAFFIC will be messy.  As crews prep and pave the road, traffic will be shifted accordingly. Pay attention (and advise your customers) to the flagmen. This will happen up one side and down another, followed by another day or two of road striping and pavement marking. But then, once complete, the road will be OPEN!

Here's what happened last week:

  • All brick pavers installed
  • All light poles installed
  • All irrigation in & ready
  • All fencing installed

Coming up this week:

  • All structures (drains, catch basins, manholes) raised to street level
  • Road leveling complete by mid-week
  • Top coat of paving to begin mid-week
  • Road striping follows paving
  • Landscape material planting begins
  • Finish colored concrete

As usual, call 248-546-1632 if you have questions, concerns or ideas on how we can assist you.  Looking forward to the end of the road!
