  Constant Reminder!

We continue to urge ALL businesses to remind passing traffic that they are OPEN FOR BUSINESS.  If your sign is getting a little dusty, give us a call and we'll bring you a new one.

AND - if you haven't hung your twinkle lights, do it now.  Nothing says "open" better than festive lighting that comes as a surprise.

Setting a Date
If you are wondering why the ready-to-fill planters on the north side  remain empty, there's good reason.  MDOT does not allow jobs to plant landscape materials until Oct. 1.  Before that, the chances of survival are greatly reduced.  While we may not like waiting, the results are stronger, hardier plants -- a lesson we might apply to our own backyards!

 Construction Meeting
The next meeting will be on August 15 at 11 am at the DDA Office, 149 W. Nine Mile.

Greetings from the South!

Gussy Up is in full swing now as almost all construction concentrates on the south side of West Nine.  That means we are closer to being done than we are to just starting!!!

If you are out there observing, I'm sure you'll agree with our assessment that it is looking a little Wild "West-ish" out there.  With the top layers of pavement pulled off the road, orange barrels everywhere and piles of dirt waiting to be shifted, it's a bit of a mess.  Before long, it will be beautiful.

The week ahead:

  • Anticipate temporary driveway closures as work progresses.  Aggregate will be applied and gaps will be left to minimize disruptions, but some will occur.
  • Sidewalk, curb, and pavement  will be removed on the south side of West Nine between Pinecrest and Livernois. This is scheduled to start Monday and is anticipated to take 2 - 3 days.
  • Curb and gutter work will begin Tuesday and Wednesday to include grading, and placement of new curb starting on Thursday.
  • Miscellaneous finish work between Livernois and Planavon includes fixing small sections of deteriorated curb.
  • Dream Cruise festivities begin Thursday, which includes shutting down W9 from Woodward to Allen and E9 from Woodward to Bermuda. Both are outside of the construction zone, but there will be residual effects on traffic in the downtown area.

Work Completed Last Week:

  • New drainage structures and sewers were installed at various locations along the south side and at Kenton.
  • Existing asphalt over the concrete base was removed.
  • Sawcutting for pavement removal was completed.

Next week we will distribute a survey to you to gather your input on the project and what else we need to be doing.  These will be hand delivered by DDA Staff.  Please take time to fill them out so we can better serve you.

Again, call 248-546-1632 if you have questions or concerns.  We are here to help!
