LESSONS LEARNED

Remember Elm trees? How about Ash?  We've learned from the devastation of an entire species that planting one kind of tree is not a good idea. Instead, several different species will bring color and warmth to the district.  Among them, the Tulip tree, Locust, a new breed of Elm and Sweet Gum tree.

The results will be sturdy, healthy and gorgeous.

FYI
If you receive How the West was One text alerts, please be aware that they will be less frequent now that the water main portion is completed. However, when you do receive them, they will be for urgent and key developments in the project.

Construction Meeting

Greetings from West Nine! We are half way to our destination!

Although a bit hesitant to say it, the West Nine Gussy Up is a bit ahead of schedule!  Yee Haw!

Next week, work will begin on the south side of West Nine beginning with traffic shifting sides either Tuesday or Wednesday. Once traffic has been shifted, the removal of sidewalks and curb will follow by the end of the week.

Even better news, once the work moves to the south side of West Nine, PARKING on the south side of West Nine between  Planavon & Farmdale will open.  Parking on the north side of 9, just east of Planavon will also open.

As work progresses, we wanted to share with you just one of the many plans that are driving the project. When all is said and done, West Nine Mile Road will be filled with trees, flowering plants, park benches, new streetlamps, safety features and more.  The drawing at the right illustrates just some of the foliage that will soften the corner at Pinecrest and Livernois -- 7-Eleven at the top, Taco Bell at the bottom.

We also took a trip down memory

lane this week and were reminded of 1976 when patriotism took over everything and the streets were renamed.  (Photo right). Back then,  those four corners included at least three gas stations!

If you would like to see how else West Nine will change, feel free to stop by the DDA office any time.  We've got the plans readily available and for those who are anxiously awaiting completion (like us!), it's a good reminder of the great things that are coming ahead.

As usual, call if you have questions.  We are here to help. 248-546-1632.

Also, we are looking to help businesses in the construction zone with a special sales day or cash mob event, so please contact us if you are interested.
