ESSENCE OF SUMMER
Twelve (12) new benches will be installed from Livernois to Pinecrest, matching the east side pedestrian alley benches. The color will hopefully remind you of summer days in the winter and provide a much needed respite throughout the year. With their "super" buttercup yellow, specially formulated for Downtown Ferndale, they will surely brighten up the West End and make it ONE with the rest of Downtown.

ON ORDER!
Street lamps take more than 3  months to order and receive.  Those for West Nine are now in production, but lighting will not be installed until Fall.

FYI
If you receive How the West was One text alerts, please be aware that they will be less frequent now that the water main portion is completed. However, when you do receive them, they will be for urgent and key developments in the project.

Construction Meeting
The next meeting will be on July 25 at 11 am at the DDA Office, 149 W. Nine Mile.

Greetings from West Nine!

The word from West Nine this week is short and sweet.  As crews continue to prepare the site for all the elements of the streetscape -- landscape beds, light poles, benches, etc., the bigger picture is all about what's happening on the actual road.

Starting Monday, July 22:

  • Milling and paving the full width of West Nine from Planavon to Livernois, starting on the north side at Planavon moving west and then looping back.
  • Crews will continue as they go (and quickly we might add) milling and paving the north side only of West Nine from Livernois to Pinecrest.
  • Great News! The full-width paving will allow for parking on the south side of West Nine between Planavon and Farmdale upon completing concrete repairs and paving.  ETA - one month.
  • Flagmen will be present to direct traffic during milling and paving of crowns in the road so please be aware, cautious and patient.
  •  NOTE:  This is not the final paving. Near the end of all the construction work a final top coat and permanent striping will be added .

As usual, call if you have questions.  We are here to help. 248-546-1632.

Stay cool in the heat!
