SPARKLING!

Part of the West Nine Gussy Up includes the addition of colored concrete WITH sparkles.  A test pad has been poured -- it's in front Dinh's -- and it's looking good.  The color is blended ALL the way thru the mix, with the sparkle put on in the final top coats.  The result, is pleasing to the eye, breaks up long stretches of pavement and adds depth to the entire streetscape.  The color concrete will be interspersed with pavers, as well.   An example of how well this product works downtown can be found in the Pedestrian Alley, south of East Nine and just east of Woodward.

Next up!  Bike racks and buttercup benches.  Yea!

Greetings from West Nine!

We are now getting to the really exciting part of How the West was One -- because this is the part that makes West Nine one with the rest of Downtown.  As crews work on cleaning up the remains of the water main install, other crews are busy installing sidewalks, preparing planter beds, working irrigation systems and more.  The photo above illustrates how nice and wide the new sidewalks are going to be...strollers, walkers, runners will be able to share that great space!  Imagine park benches, street lamps, bike racks, landscape and PEOPLE!  It's going to be an enriching result for the entire district.

What to Expect in the Week Ahead:

  • All the concrete work on the north side should be complete -- all driveways, curbs and sidewalks poured and curing.
  • Decorative fence posts will be going in.
  • Concrete pavers will be installed.
  • Irrigation system install continues.
  • There will be some work in the proposed landscape areas adjacent to driveways, so some inconvenience may be encountered but it should be for a short duration.

It is anticipated that over the next few weeks, the road bed of West Nine will be surfaced.  When that occurs, there will be some disruptions of driveways but access will continue to be provided.

As usual, call if you have questions.  We are here to help. 248-546-1632.

Sincerely,
