Side Notes:

* Since How the West was One began in mid-May, the DDA has sent out 22 text alerts.

* Fear of the Unknown. It's real!  The discovery of unknown lines, unexpected pipes, cause an immediate work stoppage and sometimes, extended postponements of planned progress.

* Watch Where You're Going.  Construction signage has been moved to provide better access to the sidewalks on West Nine, west of Livernois. Be advised - it is a construction site so use caution!

And Once Again...

* Weekly Public Construction Briefing on Thursdays at 11am at DDA office.

THANK YOU!

End of the Line - New Water Main Reaches Destination at Planavon
 June 7, 2013

Greetings from West Nine!

On May 16, the Big Dig began.  19 days later-- and only 12 of them working days - 2,600 feet of pipe was safely underground!  Now, we are into "Little Digs" up and down West Nine  as service connections are made to individual businesses. We are approaching the part of the project where it looks like nothing is happening but rest assured, it is. Poured curbs cure, new curbs are poured, electrical work begins, service connections continue.  Before long, we'll be into full Gussy Up mode.  Until then:

Work Scheduled to Be Completed by Friday, June 7:

  • Connections at Kenton, Beaufield & Dover, including Dairy Queen
  • Service line across West Nine at Livernois by Ferndale Medical Building.
  • Improved walkability on south sidewalk of West Nine, per moving of construction signage.  BE CAREFUL!

What to Expect in the Week Ahead:

  • Monday 6/10/13 - Main line connections at South Livernois and Pinecrest will cause up to 6 hour water service interruptions for South Livernois residents/properties to Albany including the Fire Station; and on the north side, Dinh Auto Repair and Quality Car Wash.
  • Tuesday 6/11 and/or Wednesday 6/12 - Main line connection at North Livernois,  shut down for up to 6 hours affecting residents on Livernois from Nine Mile to Cambourne.
  • All week - Service connections continue for businesses east of Livernois. Expect short service interruptions..
  • Curb & Driveway Pouring & Curing - Continuing east on West Nine.
  • Begin electrical and irrigation sleeve installation.
  • Sidewalk work may begin, depending on electrical progress.
Still to come:
  • Farmdale crossing delayed by discovery of "unknown" lines that must be removed before new lines can be installed. Will require 6 hour shut down, at minimum.  ETA - two weeks.
  • In approximately two weeks, connection at Planavon will affect businesses from Planavon to Spaulding & Curtin for 6 hour shut down.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the DDA at 248-546-1632.   We are here to inform and help!

Sincerely,
