A Day to Celebrate
With 70+ vendors and 14 different performers and an army of volunteers to make it all run smoothly, Ferndale Pride 2013 proves that a grassroots effort can turn a dream into a reality. The event is this Saturday, June 1 and will take place on West Nine Mile Road between Woodward & Allen.
Led by Event Organizer Craig Covey and his right hand Monica Mills, with Julia Music lining up Main Stage performers and Greg Pawlica corraling vendors, the event has burgeoned from a start up parade three years ago into a West Nine Mile Road extravaganza with events and activities for the entire family. Dozens of volunteers and generous sponsors have made the event happen.
The day begins at 10 am with the Rainbow Run, organized by the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce. 1000 runners/walkers will be colorfied at paint stations along the way and by the time they cross the line, they'll be painted in every color of the rainbow.
Ferndale Pride itself begins at noon and goes until 9 pm. Emcee on stage will be Jacqueline Frost, introducing a full line up of music, entertainment and a speech or two. (Please see related article for complete line up).
It will also be a great day to enjoy shopping and dining in Downtown Ferndale as businesses show their pride with event specials.
