May 31, 2013 Greetings from West Nine! We are pleased to report that How the West was One is going as well as can be expected and is, weather aside, right on schedule. Construction manager Matt Davis reports that the water main will be in the ground to its destination at Planavon by the end of the day, Friday, May 31. There is still a long way to go in the entire project but the Big Dig will soon be behind us! What to Expect in the Week Ahead. - Individual business service connections to the new main will continue all week. These connections require a short interruption to water service and businesses will be notified ahead of time. Crews will be working their way east from Courtesy Cleaners on the north side and Dover Street on the south side toward Planavon. At the most, expect an one-hour water service shut down with each business.
-
Monday, June 3
-- Farmdale will be closed to traffic at Nine Mile for the installation of the water main crossing. Delivery trucks for Western Market to Eight Degrees Plato will need to plan an alternate route on that day only.
-- Curb work begins at Pinecrest at 7-11 and continues east to Livernois. Partial drive accesses will be maintained. Businesses will be notified as their access points are affected.
- Tuesday, June 4 --Kenton & Pinecrest main line connection tentatively scheduled. Water service shut down will affect Dairy Queen up to 7 hours and all Kenton St. residents, Dinh Auto Repair and Quality Car Wash for up to 6 hours.
-- Dover and Livernois water main connection -- water service shut down for residents on both streets from Nine Mile to Albany up to 6 hours. -- Electrical work begins on north side of West Nine from Pinecrest to Livernois. All efforts will be made to provide access. However, if there is only one driveway to a business, it will be temporarily closed to install the electrical conduit. - Thursday, June 6 - Farmdale main line connection--water service shut down for residents/business from Nine Mile to Albany along Farmdale, and Nine Mile to Cambourne along Livernois on north side for 4-6 hours.
- All work timelines are subject to change and are contingent upon unforeseen site conditions, weather and water main test results.
As a reminder, with all water shut offs, businesses and residents will receive a flyer one day before the shut off will occur. If there is only one driveway, only half the curb will be paced at a time in order to maintain access. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the DDA at 248-546-1632. We are here to inform and help!
