Dear Businesses & Residents:

The construction crews have been doing a great job and the water main replacement is going as smoothly as can be expected. Installation of the big new main had been taken as far as Livernois. By the end of next week, they expect to have new pipe all the way to Planavon!

If you drive or walk thru the construction zone, you will see a number of different elements happening at the same time.  While testing is completed on one section of the water main, crews continue to work on making cross Nine connections, dig deeper or backfill holes.

Looking to the week ahead, starting May 28th  (no work on Memorial Day) is:

  • Early part of week of May 28th (specific day to be determined) -  Farmdale water main cross connection - this will necessitate one day of closing of Farmdale at 9 Mile, and at end of day temporary aggregate will be placed for access. This will not affect water service to any nearby businesses or residents.
  • Tuesday, May 28th -  service connections to businesses will begin from Pinecrest to Dover - water service will be shut down up to an hour per business to make the connection. This includes all businesses on 9 Mile between Pinecrest and Dover, including 7-11 to CVS on the north side, and Taco Bell to Shear Heaven on the south side. However, this does exclude Dairy Queen (their's will be connected at same time on Wednesday with the major main connection - see next bullet point).
  • Wednesday, May 29th --Kenton water main connection - water service shut down will affect Dairy Queen up to 7 hours and all Kenton St. residents for up to 6 hours.
  • Thursday & Friday, May 30 & 31 -  Dover and Pinecrest water main connection - water service shut down of up to 6 hours will affect Dinh Auto, Quality Car Wash and Dover residents only.
  • Thursday, May 30 - Starting curb work - partial drive accesses will be maintained for businesses, except 7-11 who has requested that contractors pour the entire approach off of 9 Mile at one-time. Concrete takes up to 5 days to cure, and then contractors will switch sides.
  • By end of week of May 28th -  Planavon water main connection to occur.
  • All work timelines are subject to change and are contingent upon unforeseen site conditions and weather.

As a reminder, with all water shut offs, businesses and residents will receive a flyer one day before the shut off will occur.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call the DDA at 248-546-1632.   We are here to inform and

help!
