Volunteer News & Happenings                  March, 2016
Dear Hands On Volunteer,

In honor of Read Across America Day, Wednesday, March 2nd, Hands On encourages you to volunteer to support students in and out of school. Hands On collaborates with local organizations that offer volunteer opportunities to help students succeed.
Opportunities include:
  • reading with and providing homework help to children performing below grade level to increase their academic skills.

  • serving with agencies and schools that offer high-quality, affordable early care and education programs.
  • spending quality time/mentoring youth to strengthen the social and basic life skills they need for success.

Hands On offers you the option of additionally logging your volunteer hours for opportunities not managed by Hands On that you responded to on our site. This is a great way to ensure that ALL of your service hours  - both projects managed by Hands On (like Flex and Portable) as well as others posted by our partners - are tracked and compiled in your profile.

  1. Simply log in to your personal profile and click "Track Hours".
  2. In the "Hour Type" section, choose the referral opportunity you participated in from the drop down list.
  3. Complete the date/time info within the "Hours Detail" section.
  4. Submit. Your hours will then be sent to the partner organization for approval!
Thanks Peggy!

On The Blog
Hands On coordinates Flex Projects each month that align with the United Way strategy to reduce the impact of poverty. Volunteers support the work of local nonprofits that make significant strides towards this goal. One such partner is MANNA Food Bank.

Election 2016
We know you are civically engaged as a volunteer, but voting is just as important for making a strong community. United Way encourages you to vote to advocate on behalf of the issues you care about.
-  Early voting opens Thursday, March 3rd.
-  Primary Election Day is Tuesday, March 15th.
Flex Projects
A little time. Big impact! Our Flex Projects don't require an ongoing commitment; giving you the chance to explore a variety of service opportunities.
Portable Projects
Innovative and fun approach to community service - right from your home. Great for groups, and kid-friendly!
