Dear Hands On Volunteer,
MANNA Packs for Kids - NEW Flex Project!
The MANNA Packs for Kids Program gives students from low-income families food to take home over the weekend. School counselors identify the students in need and discreetly place the bags of food into their backpacks. This program benefits WNC school children who are dependent on free or reduced cost lunch and might otherwise go hungry over the weekend. Hands On volunteers participate by packing food items into backpack-sized parcels that are distributed to local schools!  Sign up.
Language Smarts - NEW Portable Project!
Did you know that success in school by 9th grade is a primary indicator of whether or not a student will graduate high school? United Way is committed to Middle School Success! Hands On collaborates with the Buncombe County Schools Language Arts Curriculum Specialist to identify projects that align with student learning. Volunteers will create supplemental educational materials to be used in and out of the classroom to help middle schoolers improve their reading and writing skills (ex. flashcards, games etc).

This is a great project to do with friends, co-workers, family members, or on your own. You can help support the academic success of local students by helping with this project at a date/location of your choosing.  Learn more.
