Hands On Asheville-Buncombe

Back to School Supply Drive

Fill the Bus!
Walmart (Bleachery Blvd, E. Asheville)
THIS Saturday, Aug 2
10:00am -  4:00pm

While the month-long donation drive may be over, it's still not too late to participate! This year, Hands On has teamed up with Walmart to host a "Fill the Bus" event to support our month-long Back-to-School Supply Drive!

What better place to collect school supplies than the place that has them in stock? We'll be at Walmart on 125 Bleachery Blvd. in E. Asheville attempting to completely fill a school bus with donations. While you are out shopping, consider buying extra markers and 3-ring binders to help us fill the bus!!

Can't make it to the "Fill the Bus" event?  No worries. All four Buncombe County Walmarts are participating by accepting school supply donations in bins located throughout each store until Aug. 8.

THANK YOU!

Upcoming Partner Projects & Events

Our Partner Agencies offer great ways to get involved each month.  We've highlighted a few below.

Help Claxton Elementary teachers prepare for the upcoming school year!  Teachers need help getting their classrooms suitable for students to do some great learning. Volunteer tasks include moving around classroom furniture/materials, making bulletin boards, organizing/sorting, and copying/prepping classroom materials.  Wednesday & Thursday, Aug 13-14

Support RiverLink's RiverMusic, a series of FREE live concerts by the French Broad River in the River Arts District of Asheville. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks at each event.
Friday, Aug 29.

Hands On's newest partner, Organicfest needs volunteers for it's annual namesake festival! The Organicfest is a festive celebration of everything organic, green, sustainable, healthy and FUN. Festivities include live music, organic eats, Organicfest Marketplace, healthy wellness vendors and natural arts & crafts. This is a family-friendly event with eco-friendly activities for kids.  Sunday, Sept 7

Habitat for Humanity has opportunities perfect for individuals and groups with the support of Habitat staff.  The value of these donations will be a huge asset to the ReStore and to Habitat's mission of providing affordable housing to our community.
  • The Hampton Inn is remodeling and has very generously offered most all furnishings and fixtures to Habitat, for sale in the ReStore. Volunteers will help in deconstructing, as well as loading up the furnishings. Monday & Tuesday, Aug 4-5
  • The ReStore will be undertaking an extensive deconstruction project. All items extracted from the home will be brought back to the ReStore to be unloaded, processed in the Donation and Receiving area, priced, and placed on the showroom floor. Tasks might include taking out kitchen cabinetry and countertops, bathrooms, and flooring. Thursday-Saturday, Aug 7-9
