Hands On Asheville-Buncombe

Hands On Partner of the Month: American Red Cross

The American Red Cross provides relief to victims of disaster; and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Volunteers are essential in this important work.

The next New Disaster Orientation is June 28, an introduction to the Disaster Services Cycle and the volunteer opportunities within each part of the cycle. This includes an overview of the services Red Cross provides, regional structure, volunteer expectations, volunteer opportunities and online resources. This is intended to give you an idea of what's available and how to get involved. Express interest today!

Bob and Tina Hvitfeldt have been volunteers in Disaster Services with the American Red Cross- Asheville Mountain Area Chapter for 9 years! During that time, they have actively led  Disaster Action Team, responding to disasters in our community at all hours of the day and night.   Read more about Tina and Bob on our blog.

Back to School Supply Drive
June 21st - July 25th

Our annual Back to School Supply Drive kicks off later this month! Now's the time to start looking for deals on calculators and backpacks- our most needed items. Many WNC families are financially stressed, but you can make a difference in their lives. Help us equip youth from low-income families with the basic tools to learn and succeed in school. Donations will be distributed by local nonprofits and schools to students identified with needs.

Hands On Managed Projects

Flex Icon Flex Projects are done-in-a-day projects led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader. Most Flex Projects take place on evenings or weekends and last 1-3 hours. Flex Projects don't require an ongoing commitment or any advance training, and many are family friendly!

Portable Project Icon
Portable Projects allow you to volunteer any time or place you want. They're easy to do on your own or with a group. Consider getting your family, friends, faith community, or co-workers together to help with a Portable Project.
