judgmental judy
in the case of the missing N

All rise. Order in the court!
gavel
Court is now in session.

Judgmental Judy's side job out of court is as a writer. Having ordered 200 copies of her recently published book, she frustratingly noticed that on the bio page, the letter N is missing from her last name.

What?? No N??
Hmmmmm, it was there when she typed her name. It was there when two editors edited it. To where did that letter N disappear??? The Judge can think of nothing else when she looks at the book - only of the blatant "mistake" and the fact that readers will see it - and judge The Judge. She feels compelled to point out the mistake to people, you know, before they find it and wonder ... How is she a writer if she can't correctly spell her own last name?

The Judge hasn't been thinking about the months of focused work she put into writing the stories nor the dozens of hours formatting the book, collecting photos, obtaining permission to include photos, writing captions, gathering back cover quotes, working with the graphic artist to design the nice cover, and the finished product - a published book. No ... none of that, none of the more meaty matter. She can only think about that dopey missing N.

Judgmental Judy bangs her gavel on this stinkin' thinkin' ... guilty! For any of you snippeteers who may be deliberating along these same crummy thought lines: sabotaging a project, negating yourself, or bashing a fine accomplishment all because of one teensy error that probably no one will notice ... HALT! In the big picture, it is one minuscule detail - one meager letter when we should be focusing on the WHOLE ALPHABET.

Because, snippeteers, what is really missing here? Our confidence, our pride and our belief in ourselves.

Focus on the good stuff -
and the whole of the good -
and the good shall show.

Case closed. Court adjourned.

reactions to June 3 snippet:
"unburdening"

"That was probably the most emotional snippet I have ever read. It made me tear up, but thank you for making us all realize how important life is. We can't forget about the 'hidden' burdens as well, and those that are kept secret by those who suffer from them. Life is strange, but what is important is the social interaction and support we receive. Also, the strength that the individuals have themselves, that when faced alone, can still smile and enjoy everything in life, from the sun to the storms. Because even thunderstorms can be wonderful. Don't know where I went there, but thank you!"

"Good morning Suzanne, What a great article and so uplifting. I'm sending it to my friends to sign up."

reaction to May 27 snippet:
"Dear Suzanne, I enjoyed your snippet of 5/27/16 so much, that I wanted to share it with my 25-year-old daughter. Here was her response that put tears in my eyes. We both love the outdoors, and this one really hit home, as I felt the urge to be in nature after losing my father. Thank you for your beautiful emails every week!!
Make it a great day."
~ Louise

[excerpted]
"This is really really beautiful, I just read it out loud to 'T' while trying not to cry. She's right, there are no coincidences, and now is the perfect time for me to have read this. Not just because we are about to go LIVE IT UP in the national park, but also because of how I've been feeling lately ... some baggage I've been carrying that I feel has been holding me back from living more loudly.
I need to figure out how to bring those things that I love and that make me feel alive into my everyday life. I need to make more room for play and art and learning in a way that brings joy into my life.
I am really humbled and moved by this little snippet. Thank you for sending this." ~ M
