ditch the doo-doo

Walking our pooch around our second-home Florida neighborhood requires us carrying plastic bags to pick up what the dog dropped. Ewwww.

Call me a diva, call me prissy, call me a germaphobic, I don't care, but I don't like handling animal doo-doo-poo-poo, who does? GAG!!! (I'd make a terrible farmer.)

The doggie doo-doo-poo-poo process totally and irrevocably grosses me out: the pooping, the scooping, the bag looping, and the schlooping. As I'm walking down the street carrying a bag of smelly poo (nothing humbles a human faster), I search for the closest trash can and as quickly as possible, get it out of my hands. (I repeat, ewwww.) I rush in the door and wash my hands - twice.

No person should have to carry around crap. When "poo poo" appears in your life, toss it out, get rid of it, ditch the junk - as soon as humanly possible. It's smelly, unpleasant, and no fun to cart around emotionally.

Poo could be in the form of jealousy; could be a Dorothy Downer who tries to pull you down with her/him; drama that you or others create; could be stinkin' thinkin' ... arguments ... or being treated like ca-ca from someone we love or like. Or, fill in the blank - _____________ - what poo comes up for you? Any of it is stinky.

Biking back from beach yoga Wednesday morning, I stopped to sit under the shade of a palm tree and to merely chill a little more before holing up indoors for an afternoon of writing. As I sat, my nose twitched. Apparently, behind me in the grass was someone's dog poo that had not been scooped. The stench kept finding me, and then of course, it became unpleasant to sit in that exact spot. Then I remembered I didn't have to! I could easily stand up and move away from the smell. It was that easy of a choice.

And you can too. Ditch the doo. Walk away from the poo.

"Suz, I read your SNIPPETS. I am glad you found the pretty side of things on your cruise. My mom would have wanted it that way. And, believe me, I felt the love from you during Mom's passing (and Dad's). Our friendship is everlasting - you can't get rid of me now!"
Love you."

"This hit home for me having lost my husband eight months ago. The waves of grief ebb and flow and in the middle I find joy and laughter in our memories together. Having a wonderful support system of family and friends also eases the pain - it never goes away. They say that time heals but I have found that as the time passes, I struggle more. It could be that when my Steve passed away, our bed and breakfast business was at full throttle and I did not have the proper time to grieve. Now that the business has slowed due to the season, I have more time to reflect. Every day I look to find joy and happiness and witness the pretty through my tears. My Angel is always looking down and sending me signs, whether it be a rainbow, the stars over our house at night, or a gentle winter. THANK YOU STEVE!!"

"First of all, congratulations on 10 years of SNIPPETS. That is a wonderful milestone and you deserve to be proud of it. Regarding today's snippet - one of my favorite sayings is "This too shall pass" ...  it has gotten me through some rough times. Something I've learned to do when I feel down is to let myself feel sad. I think what you did, crying about your grief, was healing for you. There's a lot to be said about having a good cry. And it probably allowed you to enjoy the good moments of that day. Thanks for a nice snippet."

"Suzanne - how inspiring and uplifting to read your beautiful words! This started my day off in the right frame of mind. Looking forward to reading many more of your columns. So glad I signed up for SNIPPETS!"

"Hi Suzanne, When I came into school this morning, I exchanged greetings with a fellow teacher. Usually we teachers tend to exchange a 'TGIF' along with 'It's been a long week!" ... but I loved his comment today: 'We are on the front side of a 3-day weekend!' I loved the positive outlook and the looking forward; it sure made my day start with a smile and an upbeat attitude!"
~ Karen R in MD

"First, thank you, Suzanne: For a decade of soul service.
For your uncanny ability to see through life in an uplifting way. For your constant emotional support. For your many heartfelt prayers. For your humor and the many giggles you have given all of your readers. For your encouragement. For the many hours you have spent hunched over your keyboard. For the love and wisdom you have shared. And lastly ... for just being you!

Secondly, sadly, we all go through losing our parents and I am sure that your friend knows that you wanted to be with her and that your love and prayers were felt by her. When those heart-wrenching days fall upon you, I hope that you will feel the love surrounding you, from all of us, ten fold. Yes, life can be crappy, at times, and unfortunately, there is nothing any of us can do about that, but it is in such sorrows that we find what love, compassion, family and friendship really mean.

Life, however daunting, is a God given gift that should always be cherished and appreciated. Thanks for reminding us of that through your SNIPPETS

I love and appreciate you, Suzanne Molino Singleton! Keep those snippets coming. Congrats on a decade well written! I hope you continue in your good service."
