flying by the seat of my biking pants
reflections on life as we pedal along

In last week's issue, the snippet began with the scenario of waiting around for my friend to go biking. I was dressed and ready in the morning, and she was taking long to get to my house and finally showed up later afternoon. We ended up swimming instead of biking, and the simple message was go with the flow.

This week I'd like to write a different ending to that same scenario - that I left my friend behind and went biking alone. Because I was ready.

Simple message of not allowing others to hold us back from living our dreams, doing our thing, and making things happen.

One definite thing I have learned in Earth School is that if we have NO ONE ELSE to depend on, we have us. (That is, when we are not hampering and undermining ourselves.)

People (we, us) can be unpredictable, unreliable. People can change their minds. People can be all hot air without following through. And - people can disappoint us when we set up expectations for them. We wait for others. And yet, when there is no noticeable action on their part; then we sit on our haunches and decide not to take action either. Know what I mean? (And, I ask you, is that our excuse, our stalling, our cop out???)

What are you NOT doing yet because you are waiting for someone else? Fill in the blank ____________. Starting a business? Traveling to Italy or a dude ranch? Visiting a local winery, farmer's market or restaurant? Beginning an exercise regime? Renting an apartment? Designing a clothing line? Putting in your dream kitchen? Getting a tattoo?

Although, yes it's nice to tackle adventures, activities and projects in pairs, trios, foursomes, and larger groups (provides us with security and courage; the 'safety in numbers' mentality), it can be  frustrating when WE are primed to go, THEY ARE NOT and we're waiting around.

That could signify they do not mean what they say and never intend to go or do or start - or else they would! (Because why? Because we do the things we really want to do.)

I challenge you, snippeteers ... whatever is your 'fill in the blank' that you're waiting around to start/do with a friend, family member, spouse, coworker, or whomever promised to participate, consider doing it without them. GO IT ALONE. Could be as simple as going to watch a movie you really wanna see, or could be as intricate as beginning a business.

Simply START.

We can depend on ourselves because we know our desires, timeframes and preparation levels. We recognize when we are primed and ready to ride.

Life is short, this we have figured out. So go. Ride alone ... or regret never riding at all.

Start it; you don't have to be fancy.
Keep moving; you don't have to go crazy.
Visualize; you don't have to admit it.
See the end result; it doesn't have to be material.
Expect miracles; they don't have to be huge.

Pretend you've arrived;
you don't have to dance on tables.
And above all else, have fun.
This is why you started it, right?
