shadow beach bikerflying by the seat of my biking pants

reflections on life as we pedal along
(formerly called 'not about the bike')

On an August morning I woke up and immediately dressed in biking clothes. I was primed for a good long trail ride on that beautiful day.

Phoned a friend:
Can you go on the trail? No.

Phoned another friend:
Can you ride? ... Yes, but not until later.

And since I only have exactly two cycling friends to call when I want company on a ride (where did all my biking partners go over the years?), I waited. And waited. Then waited some more.

Morning turned to afternoon and I was still in my biking clothes without my friend in sight and without having sweated, pushed a pedal or burned one calorie.

C'mon, where are you? I'm still waiting to bike.

I'll be there soon.

The friend showed up, yet without her bike and she wore a swimsuit and cover-up.
Sorry. My car was too packed to fit my bike!

So I changed into a swimsuit and we exercised in the pool instead of on our bikes.

Plan A sometimes gets altered, yet that doesn't mean Plan B is any less effective. The two of us enjoyed a delightful sunny day in and by the pool - lapping, treading, lounging, talking and sharing. And Plan B was good.

Go with the flow.

about the summer sabbatical
    beach-chairs-header.jpg
hello snippeteers, and welcome back to all of us!

How fast did the summer go, wow? I would like to share snippets of some of the May emails I received with your thoughts as I announced SNIPPETS' summer sabbatical. I was touched by your understanding and cheers. Thank you.

And as always, thanks for snippeting,
Suzanne

"I've been reading you for years now and yet I'm a silent but loyal snippeteer.  For whatever reason, I wanted to finally speak up and say I love you and I love your heart. You're beautiful inside and out and it spills out in your words, sentences, paragraphs, etc. Your humility and honesty blesses me and your shares are often food for my soul and fuel for my empty engine. I think it's wonderful that you are taking a break and giving to yourself what you so freely share with others. Enjoy sweetie and may God refresh your spirit, mind and body." ~ Babs S, TX

"Enjoy your summer 'break.' Thank you for all your words of wisdom and inspiration." ~ Lucille C

"Way to go! You tell all those who gobble your snips to reduce their own stress, to relax and enjoy life with all of its toils and woe and to focus on its joy, to renew their view, to simplify, to add vigor, zeal, zest and humor to their lives, to reflect and unwind, to take time for themselves. Glad to see you take your own advice." ~ Geri E, MD

"Good for you. Take some time to enjoy family, friends, your book." ~ Karen R

"Go and refresh!!! It's what the doctor ordered!" ~ Liz R, MD

"Enjoy your time this summer! We all need a vacation or sabbatical once in a while." ~ Paula C, NJ

"You definitely deserve a little time off and who knows, maybe we will send you a few snippets. Life is all about balance. We are always having to balance needs and wants, fun and responsibilities, being bad and being badder." ~ Cindy B

"If I have learned anything from your weeklies, it is to give ourselves permission." ~ Georgie, GA

"I love each SNIPPETS and look forward to Fridays. I totally understand the need for some relaxing time, so go and enjoy!! Keep up the wonderful work and we all look forward to reading anything you have the time and energy to write!!" ~ Judy R, OH

"Take a break with our blessings!!!" ~ Sue M, MD

"At the end of the school year I always think I wish I had a job that I could take the summer off. Glad you decided to take the summer off!"
~ Gina H, NC

"Come back renewed and refreshed." ~ MaryPat M
