not about the exercise class

sweating through it

Walked into a CX-Works class the other day at the gym. Oops, I was the only one there. The class is a tough one - bands, weights, mats, body weight, ab work, leg lifts ... the kind of class that hurts and makes me practically limp the next day.

I said to the instructor, "C'mon, let's go. I can do anything for 30 minutes. Just don't torture me, you're younger than I am." :-D

During the 30, my muscles were screaming and protesting, and I sweated like a misbehaved child in the principal's office. Each time I wanted to quit, I reminded myself "it's only 30 minutes" and I pushed through it. (If I have twice given birth to ginormous babies - 9 lbs/1 oz. and 11 lbs/1 oz., then I can do anything.)

Situations we may be experiencing currently, can feel as if they will drag on indefinitely. We want them to be OVER already. The job search ... a marriage separation ... pushing a teen through school ... losing weight ... waiting for a house to sell ... an enormous work project ... adjusting our hearts to being without someone after death. We sweat through it. It seems LONG. It's TOUGH. We're protesting. We push through it.

Know this, snippeteers  ... no time period remains intact. Life keeps rolling. This, too, shall pass, and so will next week and the next, and the year after, and the year after that. Before you know it, you're looking BACKWARDS, 10 months later, two years. And somehow it doesn't feel exasperating, painful, or frustrating any longer.

You WILL get through it. You always do.

summer sabbatical

dearest snippeteers,

SNIPPETS, for me, continues to be a source of meditation, reflection, enjoyment, delight, and sort of a weekly "diary" that allows me to think-out-loud as I strive to validate our human emotions as we stroll life's path ... together. Somehow it keeps flowing, and I keep writing.

For nine years - since 2006 - every Friday - I have penned this column. That's about 468 issues.

I would like to take a summer sabbatical. Take a little pressure off of "having to" write a weekly column, rejuvenate, refresh (I feel like I've been repeating myself lately), and slightly relieving my crazy-good schedule. Practicing a bit of 'schedule-less-ness.' The year 2014 - and so far 2015 - have been whirlwinds, professionally and personally. It's all crazy good. (As well, I receive many 'out of office' replies during the summer, as readers take vacation. Good for you!).

I may toss out an issue here and there if the mood strikes; or even republish previous issues - you know, just so you don't forget stuff.
:-D
