not my circus     monkey clipart

Over breakfast with my 'soul sister' Bee, I was in "UNLOAD MODE" as we sipped our coffee. After listening to my litany, she looked me in the eyes and actually chuckled, "Suzanne, listen to yourself ... this isn't even your stuff!"

I had my panties in a wad fretting over another person's situation and how it might turn out - or not.

Funny that I should experience that 'aha' moment since not long  I had come across a quote which I had intended to use in SNIPPETS ...
monkey clipart
RIGHT????? How often do we worry or vent about someone's stuff? It doesn't belong to us ... it is beyond our control ... so what's the point in taking it upon ourselves? Putting the monkey on OUR backs? Setting up the circus tent? Selling tickets for people to hear us vent or judge others?

My mentor, Roxanne, wrote on the monkey topic in her new book, HapZaps: 55 Choices that Zap! our Happiness which I've mentioned previously here. Here is an excerpt of her chapter, "Choosing to monkey around with someone else's monkey" ...

We get hooked and take it on ourselves. This is a situation where it is totally appropriate to say 'not my problem' but often that doesn't happen. We take on monkeys out of habit, out of a sense of obligation or just when we are tempted by the seduction of joining in the feeling of being RIGHT. The lure of judgment.

How to make a better choice: monkey clipart
  • decide to give the monkey back or just set it free
  • move attention to something else, to what makes you feel good, things to appreciate and be grateful for
  • forget about it
  • beware of taking on a monkey that you haven't even personally experienced

Snippeteers ... what "monkeys" are you parading around that don't belong to you? Can you return them to the circus?

a giggle

A policeman in the city stops a man in a car with a monkey in the front seat.

"What are you doing with that monkey?" he asked. "You should take it to the circus."

The following week, the same policeman sees the same man with the monkey in the front seat. Both are wearing sunglasses.

The policeman pulls him over. "I thought you were going to take that monkey to the zoo?!"

The man replied, "I did. We had such a good time, we're headed to the beach!"
