Add a Brooch for Holiday Bling

One of my favorite way to add a little bling to any outfit, especially during the holidays is a brooch.  It's my favorite because it is easy to wear, versatile, timeless, and always a conversation piece.  Best of all, I bet you already have a few in your jewelry box.  If you don't, check with your mother or grandmother; they probably have a great stash collected over generations.  Hand-me-down brooches are the best; they are not only pretty, they have meaning because someone you loved wore them. 

You can purchase brooches at any costume or fine jewelry store.  Thrift and consignment shops are a fantastic place to pick up vintage pieces. 

Brooches add drama to anything you pin them to. They are also a great way to draw attention to your "best assets". 

There are countless ways to wear them; here are a few:

• The traditional way, on the upper right of a blouse, dress, coat, or jacket lapel.  

• Transform a clutch purse into a beautiful evening bag by adding a brooch.
  

• Add pizzazz to a hat with a brooch.

• Pin one to the top of the front slit in your skirt to highlight legs (evening only).

• Make a neckline a little less revealing by pinning it with a brooch.

• Don't forget your overcoat or jacket; add one to the collar or lapel.

• Wear more than one; group a few small brooches together.

• Add a brooch in place of a button at the top of your shirt or jacket.

• Use it to hold your tote bag closed.

• Add it to a scarf at your neck or shoulders.

• Create a beautiful belt with a scarf and a brooch for the buckle. 

• Add it to your hair on a headband, barrette, bobby pin, or scrunchie.

• Create a stunning bracelet by adding a broach to a fine fabric wristband.

• Hold your cardigan sweater closed with a brooch.

• Feed a chain through the clasp and wear it as a pendant.

• Create a tailored waist at the front or back or a garment by gathering the fabric together with a brooch.

• Add matching brooches to your gloves or mittens at the wrist or ring finger.
