Wow, we have a busy next couple of months over here at Artist Trust!
Applications for our 2016 Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) award are now open, and check out our new handy reference guide filled with examples of successful past applications!
We want to help you make the best GAP application possible, so we're hosting Office Hours, a free grantwriting support program for artists of all disciplines looking for advice on how to apply for funding from Artist Trust. Office Hours will occur throughout the state in Spokane, Seattle, Walla Walla, and Bellingham, and Tacoma.
On April 19, Artist Trust representatives are hosting free "watching parties" around the state in Seattle, Bellingham, Richland, Vancouver, and Yakima featuring a live-broadcast webinar that will provide tips and best practices for applicants. Can't make it to a watching party? We're having a remote broadcast on May 4.
Artist Trust will be in Walla Walla this weekend with Office Hours, a workshop (From the Studio to the Gallery), and a reception where you can mingle with local artists and Artist Trust staff and supporters.
And finally, we're headed to Bellingham at the end of the month with a handful of fun and educational events: Office Hours, a photography and grantwriting workshop, and the second stop of our year-long Artist Trust on Tour! We hope you can join us!

Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) applications are now being accepted! The application deadline is May 23, 2016. Check out the guidelines to start your application!
Grants for Artist Projects provide financial support -- up to $1,500 per project -- for individual artist projects. GAPs support a wide range of artist projects including (but not limited to) the development, completion or presentation of new work; publication; travel for artistic research or to present or complete work; documentation of work; and advanced workshops for professional development.

In this workshop, led by artist Greg Tate and gallerist Ann-Marie Cunningham, you'll learn how to approach a gallery for a show. Topics include preparing an artist statement, artist bio, and portfolio, goal-setting, and how to show in different venues.
Following the presentation will be a Q&A panel with gallerists Jay Anderson (Foundry Vineyards) and Brandon Kubrock (Studio TWOZEROTWO) who will share their expectations and artists Keiko Hara & Juventino Aranda who will share their experiences.

Calling all Spokanites! Join Artist Trust's Spokane Program Coordinator Anne-Claire Mitchell to talk about grants and work on your application for the 2016 Grants for Artist Projects. She'll be at the Spokane Downtown Public Library between 12 and 3pm to review your application and answer any and all questions about grants. No need to pre-register!

On April 25 from 4-7pm, Artist Trust staff will be at Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center to answer your questions about grants and help you put together a competitive GAP application! We'll be on hand for one-on-one consultations and materials reviews, as well as available to answer questions about the granting process.

Check out this free grantwriting support program presented in partnership with Northwest African American Museum. Artist Trust staff will provide one-on-one consultation where we'll walk artists through the application process for our grants, provide feedback on their grant applications, and answer any questions they have. Appointments for this session (20 minutes) are guaranteed by registering here. There may be additional opportunities for walk-in consultations.
At this special edition of Office Hours, presented in partnership withNorthwest Film Forum, Artist Trust staff will do a short presentation on funding opportunities for media artists, joined by multidisciplinary artist Dayna Hanson, who will share her path to establishing her film career and experience seeking funding for film projects. Stick around after the talks for drinks and mingling. Dayna will be on hand for one-on-one consultations on your projects, and AT staff will walk you through the application process for our grants, provide feedback on grant applications, and answer any questions. Filmmakers: you are welcome to bring 10-minute rough cut excerpts and script treatments for Dayna to review in 15-minute one-on-one sessions. Talks at 5pm followed by happy hour drinks at 6.

Artist Trust is excited to host the second night of the Artist Trust on Tour series in Bellingham!
4 award-winning artists from Bellingham and Tacoma will come together at Firehouse Performing Arts Center on April 28 to perform their various disciplines on an unforgettable night, hosted by Artist Trust's own Brian McGuigan.
Come at 6pm for a happy hour, where beer will be provided by Aslan Brewery and Boundary Bay, our beverage sponsors for the night. Performances will begin at 7pm.
This workshop, with 20-plus-year professional photographer Michelle Bates, is a comprehensive introduction to what it takes to photograph your artwork and work samples to get the results you want. Topics covered during the demo shooting section are: appropriate cameras, lenses, tripods, lights, and backgrounds. We'll also discuss digital file types, when to use film, digital competition submissions, ways to print your images for sale, and how to sell them online.

Kelsye Nelson is an author and publishing professional. She teaches the Business of Digital Publishing course at the University of Washington and is the founder of Avasta Press. She's also the co-founder and former CEO of Writer.ly, an online marketplace that connects writers to publishing professionals. Nelson helps authors across genres publish their books, offering invaluable experience in launch strategy, publishing on various platforms, marketing, and author platform building.
Artist Trust, Tacoma / From the Studio to the Gallery / May 21
This workshop is designed for artists who have been working on developing a body of work and are now interested in taking it to the next level. In this workshop we will look at ways of mounting, hanging, and presenting your work. We will discuss best practices for working with galleries. We will review gallery lighting and also work on tailoring your show statements and artist bios to best fit your work. Students are encouraged to bring in some actual pieces or images of their work. Its time to get excited about the show you have been working towards!

Catching up with Artist Trust grant recipients and grads!
Sculptor and 2009 Grants for Artist Projects recipient Lanny Bergner collaborated on an exhibition, Warping, which opens Saturday at Smith and Vallee Gallery in Bow, WA.
2015 Artist Trust Fellowship recipient, June Sekiguchi, will be giving an artist talk in conjunction with the show Logic of Chance at noon on on May 1 at Gallery One in Ellensburg, WA.
2008 EDGE grad Deanna Pindell completed an eco-art residency in Cambodia, where she built a floating sculptural water-treatment island with Montessori schoolchildren.
