Want tickets to a Toronto FC II soccer game?
|
To celebrate the culture of sport in Vaughan, two lucky City Update subscribers and their guests will win tickets to see Toronto FC II (TFC II) this summer. The City of Vaughan has embarked on a new era as it welcomes professional soccer and TFC II to their new home field at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Hundreds of people were in attendance to cheer on The Baby Reds at their first home game earlier this month as they hit the pitch against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

To commemorate this milestone in Vaughan's history, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua participated in the official coin toss at the start of the game.
For full contest details, visit vaughan.ca. Contest closes on Aug. 14 at 4 p.m.
Toronto FC II tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling the team's ticket line at 416-360-GOAL (4625) or by visiting www.tfc2.ca.

Will your street get new trees this year?
|
Thousands of trees have been lost across Vaughan as a result of the 2013 ice storm and the ongoing damage caused by the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).
To help address this tree loss in residential areas, the City has developed a 2015 tree replacement strategy that will aim to replant approximately half of the trees lost in residential areas. Streets receiving trees this year are listed on our website. This is the start towards rebuilding Vaughan's tree canopy, and the plan will be revisited and readjusted every year.
Residents can choose to plant their own tree or a larger caliper tree on the street boulevard at their own expense based on the following criteria:
- The location must be approved and prepared by
City staff - The tree species must be selected from the City's
pre-approved list - The resident is responsible for co-ordinating, planting and all associated costs
- The normal 12-month warranty on the tree must be signed over to the City
For more information, visit vaughan.ca/trees.

Mayor's golf tournament scores hole in one for community groups
|

On July 7, generous golfers came together for a round on the green at the Eagles Nest Golf Club, raising funds for a very worthy cause. The Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua Annual Charity Golf Classic and the Mayor's Gala have brought a renewed spirit of generosity and compassion to the City of Vaughan.
Since 2011, these events have collectively raised over $3.3 million in support of more than 100 groups and charities - including special education centres, seniors programs, women's shelters, special needs programs and more - that are dedicated to bringing positive change to people's lives. These people and the many organizations that benefit play a vital and important role in moving our city forward, together.
