NEW FAMILIES CONNECTED RECREATION CO-OP
Families Connected has launched a new summer program, called the Families Connected Recreation Co-Op. The co-op will provide opportunities for families with children with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) to explore and engage in a variety of fun summer recreational activities within the community. LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAMS
The Eugene Public Library is hosting a fun summer reading program for kids, called Dig Into Reading. The Springfield Public Library also has a summer reading program. Visit Youth Services Calendar of Events for a list of planned events in Springfield. Don't forget the Eugene Public Library also hosts Sensory Story Time every Wed. from 1-2 p.m. at the downtown branch.
EUGENE TO HOST SUMMER IN THE CITY
The City of Eugene will host more than 40 free family events this summer! Families will enjoy live music, movies, dances in the park and more. Visit Summer in the City to see a calendar of planned events.
RESOURCES AND INFORMATION
Children ages 18 and younger can eat free during the summer thanks to FOOD for Lane County. No registration is required. An adult must accompany children ages 1-2 years. To see list of dates and sites, visit the Summer Food Program or call Karen Roth at 541-343-2822.
The City of Eugene's Adaptive Recreation Services has hand cycles, adaptive bicycles and all terrain wheelchairs for rent. The cost is $15 per day, $25 for the weekend, $55 per week or $99 for two weeks. Visit Equipment Rentals to learn about the different types of equipment available. Super Duper StoryMaker is a free mobile app that allows children to create picture stories and practice reading, sequencing, vocabulary and sentence building and storytelling with others.
Prepare to Have Fun This Summer gives tips for creating structure and easing anxiety about summer activities for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD).
The University of Oregon Psychology Department needs
children and teens (ages 8-17 years) with Asperger Syndrome or high functioning autism for a study on how the brain works. The study will take about two hours of time for each session, with up to four sessions possible. Participants will receive $10 per each hour.
