Happy New Year
from Floyd Valley Healthcare!
It's a new year and we are excited to share our new name. We thought we would take this opportunity to give you a little history of what lead up to our changes. Ironically, history was a factor in the decision process.  Floyd Valley will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on December 1, 1966.
Our Board of Trustees began discussions last summer on what the next 50 years should look like at Floyd Valley. We enlisted the help of the community, retired employees and staff to help us look at name, image and other important aspects of Floyd Valley. With the timing of the North Addition completion, it also afforded us a chance to look at what we would be placing on the exterior signs to welcome people to our facility.
A hospital is a building, and yes, a prominent piece of the history at Floyd Valley that housed the important work done. "Hospital" services like surgery and patient rooms and skilled nursing care are an important part of what we're about, but over time, they have become a smaller part (about 20%) of what we do.  As medicine evolved, much of what we do for our community is now considered outpatient care like visits to our clinics, therapies, same-day surgeries, diagnostic tests etc.
We found that a common discussion among all groups was that what we really provide is healthcare; whether you are visiting the clinic, the patient floor, one of the therapies or even the assisted living facility. Calling us Floyd Valley Healthcare is much more than a name, it is the mission we strive for every day while caring for the residents of our communities.
We thought it was also a good time to look at our logo. While looking at choices of how we wanted to brand ourselves, a member of our family presented us with what we think is the perfect choice to represent Floyd Valley. Tracy Jackson, a certified nurse aide, saw some of the logo choices being discussed and thought that she could create something to encompass the many thoughts that were emerging. She started by sketching "FVH." She saw if she looped the tops of the F and H, you could still see the mother and child representation that has become an important piece of our history. It was not until the next day while looking at the sketch that Tracy saw something else. If she shaded in the lower part of the sketch, you could also see a heart, the center of our compassionate care. She brought her sketch to Administration and the image was shown to employees. It overwhelmingly was chosen as our new logo.
We are looking forward to a busy 2016 with many chances to celebrate our anniversary and share the construction successes of the North Addition project while continuing to provide the nationally-recognized care you have come to expect from us. We are honored daily by our family, friends and neighbors that choose Floyd Valley for their care. Floyd Valley Healthcare. It is who we are and what we do!
