Dichos y Dichos
Welcome
Greetings!

Well, we're down to the final question, which is:  "Who has figured it out already?"

The question I discussed last week was to identify the outcome desired.  Some leaders will spring into action by creating a list of obstacles, and prioritizing and identifying ways to overcome each obstacle.  Others will pause to steal ideas.  Yes, I do mean "steal ideas."  But since stealing is a politically incorrect term, we'll call it "strategic parallel engineering!" But, I will explain this further.

Intelligence is learning from your own mistakes; wisdom is learning from the mistake of others.  It's less painful to be wise than smart.  It's also a lot cheaper.  That is why this third question is so important.

What this question will do is help you to do some research and find out about anyone who has written a book, or created an outline that you can follow to reach your goal.  For those that want to lose weight, there are calorie reference books for each fruit, vegetable, grain, meat, poultry or fish.  Learn to count the calories.  For those that want help with their diet, there are also books that discuss all types of diets that can help you, IF you stick to them, as well as exercises that you can do to help with your weight loss.  In other words, someone has already written something on the subject, so learn to read and stick to what you've learned from your reading.  The same holds true for those that want to start a business, change careers, improve on their skills, and the list goes on and on!  What the third question is saying is for you to "open your eyes" to the answers that someone else has already discovered, no doubt through the many trials and tribulations they encountered, thereby saving you the time, energy and money to duplicate what is already in front of you!  As another saying states, "Don't reinvent the wheel if it has already been invented!"

Weekly "Dicho con Café"

"La cantidad de consejos siempre es más que la demanda."

The author's translation is:
"There's always more advice then there is demand for it"

In other words, people should keep their own advice to themselves, especially when it is not asked for and not meddle in other people's business.  Too often people stick their nose into things that are not of their business and in turn create problems for themselves for giving advice when it isn't sought.

More About John A. Flores

Mr. Flores has been involved in many businesses over his lifetime - some were merely investments that looked promising, and others for enjoyment, such as his books on dichos.  In either case, he has been fortunate to be successful in all of his ventures, some more than others, but the important thing is that he used his experience with each of these ventures to further his knowledge and abilities to lay a sound financial foundation for him and his wife.  Undoubtedly, the challenging businesses were those that dealt with food and drink since it is a business that is opened daily and has long hours.  Many times, because some workers called in sick or didn't come to work for some other reason, the Floreses were required to work on what would have been their day off.  It's a tough business, with many competitors all around vying for many of the same customers, and then there is always the problem of bad weather or economic conditions affecting the daily receipts.  The Floreses have sold their numerous businesses over the years and Mr. Flores concentrates on real estate, business consulting and his books on dichos. The primary reason for these businesses being selected by Mr. Flores is because he can work out of his home, in a converted guest house that he uses for his office, which sits about 40-50 feet from his back patio and minimizes the expenses of his businesses.  Working out of his home calls for less travel, less gas, less eating out and many other expenses that go with working elsewhere where rent, utilities, phones, insurance are just part of the cost of having an outside office.  It's a very happy situation for Mr. Flores since he loves the excitement of delving in real estate and helping others in their business problems in addition to, of course, his love in writing about dichos.
