Greetings!
Over my lifetime, I have read thousands of books. Even to this day, I read at least two books weekly. I spend one to two hours reading daily in the quiet of my home and office, but I also read while exercising and when traveling by plane. My many bookshelves are filled with books that I read for enjoyment, which include fiction and nonfiction, and they are filled with books on motivation, marketing, management, and many of the other disciplines that I discuss with you each week. While reviewing one of my bookshelves that included my many books on motivation, I came across a book that I read many years ago, and over forty years later, I still have it on my shelf! From time to time, I read all or part of it, since it made a huge impact in my life. The book I am making reference to is called "The Greatest Salesman in the World" written by Og Mandino, and today I'm going to discuss with you the first of the ten "scrolls" addressed in his book. The first scroll starts with the phrase, "Today I Begin a New Life!" In other words, don't wait for tomorrow, or for the stars and moon to be aligned a certain way in the heavens, or for better weather to get started, but begin TODAY! He goes on to say that the difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to success. Bad habits are the unlocked doors to failures. Therefore, he states that the first law you should obey, which should precede all others, is to "form good habits and become their slave." You begin this by reading the words of the first scroll for thirty days in a row, every morning, midday, and evening, before going to the next scroll. By doing this repetitively, you will subconsciously begin to react to all situations that confront you and put in place the good habits that will help you succeed. I know -- I put to practice many years ago what was taught in this book and to date, I still practice good habits that make my life a much more pleasant one. Give it a try! It doesn't hurt and it can make your life a much more pleasant and enjoyable one.
Gracias,

Weekly "Dicho con Café"
"La cabra siempre tira al monte."
The author's translation is that "The goat always heads for the mountains."
What this means is that we are victims of our habits. Just like the goat that knows that the mountains is where it belongs and will always head home, so it is with many who keep going back to the same habits over and over again until they learn new ones. I recall a time when I was about 7 years of age when I went to Mexico and met my grandfather for the first time. He gave me a ride in a wagon pulled by a donkey, and in order to get the donkey to travel from home, he had to use the switch in order to get the donkey to move. However, once he turned the donkey toward home, the donkey took off trotting until he got us back to where we started. So it is with habits. We will become the slave of bad habits until we make a sincere effort to replace them with good ones! You must also never forget that the old habits lie in wait in the back part of your brain waiting for a chance to once again take over your decision-making process, so continue to make sure that the good habits are always foremost in your mind so as not to let those old bad habits back into your life! |

More About John A. Flores
In addition to traveling to the many countries about which he shared with you over the previous newsletters, as well as writing the books on dichos that he collected over the years, Mr. Flores is also an author of a book on entrepreneurship, and has conducted classes at numerous venues including local city colleges and universities, as well as internationally in Poland and Belarus. He has worked with the local Small Business Administration, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and other community action programs where he has conducted classes on how to begin a business along with the areas that need to be addressed if the business venturer wishes to be successful. He has a passion to see people succeed and gives advice weekly to those that seek his guidance. He sees education as a KEY to success regardless of what business or career a person might choose. It's not enough to know the business, but most importantly is how to "operate" the business and what key areas need to be reviewed on a daily basis to insure continued success. His bookshelves are filled with books on marketing, management, market share, business plans and many other areas of business that he reads regularly so that he can help those that need his help. Mr. Flores has been in business for over fifty years and to date, he continues to delve in real estate, consulting on business, and, of course, collecting and writing books on dichos. He loves doing what he does and, as someone once said, "If you like what you do, it becomes a hobby and ceases to be work," making the day much more enjoyable, making you look forward to the next day. It's always more fun when work becomes a hobby instead of just plain work! Isn't it?
When he's not writing books, Mr. Flores makes presentations to local, regional and national groups, using dichos to motivate his audiences. You can contact him for speaking engagements at (559) 456-0128 or at his personal email at jaflores1246@comcast.net
