On August 13, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council voted in favor (12-5) of increasing the recreational allocation of red snapper quota in the Gulf from 49 percent to 51.5 percent. The shift was based on new information from the Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP), which demonstrates that recreational anglers catch more red snapper than previously counted under the inefficient Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS). The previous allocation of a 49 percent share for recreational anglers and a 51 percent share for commercial was established in the early 1990s...

On August 17, the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) hosted a reception for members and partners of the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) titled "Changing Times: Sunday Hunting and Suppressors" at Timothy's on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware. The reception was held concurrent with the Council of State Governments' East Annual Meeting and welcomed over 65 guests, including more than 30 state legislators from 6 different states. Guests gathered for a focused discussion on policy issues affecting the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions...
On August 5, the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF), Ducks Unlimited and Oregon Hunters Association submitted a joint letter to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission urging the Commission to adopt proposed regulations from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) that would uphold Oregon's popular Northwest Permit Zone goose hunt...

On Thursday, August 27, the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation will host the Annual 'Texas Bass, Bucks & Boots' Reception and Dinner in Houston, Texas. The event brings together federal and state legislators with members of the sportsmen's community to discuss conservation policies affecting the Midwestern United States, and to celebrate the rich outdoor sporting heritage of the Lone Star State. The evening will feature a reception and raffle followed by dinner and a live auction.
