August Recess Shoot-Out Draws Hundreds to Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation Event

August 7, 2013 (Washington, DC) - Despite the wet conditions, nearly two hundred beginner and experienced shooters joined the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) for a friendly shooting competition at the Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center in Glenn Dale, Maryland.

The August Recess Shoot-Out brings congressional staff together with the sportsmen's and recreational shooting community to enjoy a fun day out of the office with hands on opportunities to shoot skeet, trap and sporting clays. This year's event was one of the most well attended as many new faces joined CSF for a great day of shooting.

Melissa Simpson, Director of Government Affairs and Science Based Conservation for Safari Club International (SCI) and member of the CSF Board of Directors, welcomed staffers in attendance and spoke on the importance of advancing sportsmen's priorities in the 113th Congress. "The August Recess Shoot-Out is hosted every year to build interest in the shooting sports and to keep congressional staffers informed on key sportsmen's issues. There are a number of bills going before this Congress that benefit sportsmen and women and I ask that you urge your boss to cosponsor these pieces of legislation," Simpson stated.

The beginner level shooters took part in lessons in firearm safety and shooting skills from Remington Arms Company's skilled shooting team and the Skeet Center's professional instructors. The more experienced shooters competed in a series of skeet, trap and sporting clays to determine the best shot.

The Top Beginner awards were given to Crysten Glawe from Representative Erik Paulsen's office, Kate MacGregor from the House Natural Resources Committee and Janelle Belland from Representative John Kline's office.

The Top Gun for the 2013 August Recess Shoot-Out was Joel Hinzman of Oracle. The Top Gun Female award went to Amy Childers of the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).

The Top Republican staff shooter was Chris Farrar from Senator John Boozman's office and the Top Democratic staff shooter was Richard Lee from Representative Collin Peterson's office. The Top Skeet award went to Andrew Bordon of Bass Pro Shops. The Top Trap award went to Jim Woodbridge of the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), and Tim Rupli of TR Rupli & Associates, Inc. won Top Sporting Clays honors.

CSF would like to thank the Title Sponsors of the 2013 August Recess Shoot-Out: Alpha Natural Resources, ATK, ExxonMobil Corporation, and Natural Resource Results.
