Summary: Concerns the interstate wildlife violator compact; enacts the Wildlife Violator Compact and repeal the Northeast Conservation Law Enforcement Compact that is no longer required.

Issue Brief: Outdoor Sporting Goods Tax Holiday  

Summary: Exempts from sales taxation retail sales of firearms, ammunition and hunting supplies when sold during the annual Mississippi second amendment weekend holiday beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in September and ending at 12:00 midnight on the following Sunday. 

Status: Introduced to House Committee on Ways and Means on January 11. Died in Committee on February 27.

Issue Brief: Right to Hunt/Fish

Summary: Authorizes the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to define the term "bow and arrow" for the purpose of open deer season; authorizes the taking of deer during any primitive weapon season by a hunter with any firearm of choice upon private lands vested in the hunter or upon which hunting rights have been leased to the hunter; provides that if a license is required for the taking of deer upon private lands, the hunter shall purchase and have the license in his possession.
Status: Title Deemed Sufficient by House Committee: Do Pass Recommended Substitute on January 31. Failed to pass Senate and Motion to Reconsider Entered.

 

New Hampshire H 256

Issue Brief: General

Summary: Retained in Committee for Second Year Action
Provides funding for the fish and game search and rescue fund by establishing a $10 surcharge on all fines issued for fish and game law violations and establishing a minimum flat fee for individuals who were the object of a search and rescue response, unless the individual possesses a current hunting or fishing license, an OHRV, snowmobile, or boat registration, or a voluntary hike safe card issued by the department and establishing a voluntary hike safe card.

Status: Retained in Committee for Action in Second Year of Session on March 5.

  

New Hampshire H 258

Issue Brief: General 

Summary: Prohibits the practice of baiting for the taking of deer, and also prohibits feeding deer during deer season with foods known to be attractive to deer; allows the executive director to issue special permits using baiting.

Status: Retained in Committee for Action in Second Year of Session on March 5.

Summary: Proposed constitutional amendment providing for reduced property taxes for certain privately-held lands permanently preserved as open space.

Summary: Relates to management of the menhaden fishery; establishes a total allowable landings of 144,272.84 metric tons per year for Atlantic menhaden landed in Virginia by the purse seine menhaden reduction sector, the purse seine menhaden bait sector, and the non-purse seine menhaden bait sector; this legislation authorizes the Commission to establish and administer a limited entry purse seine menhaden bait license according to specific criteria.

Status: House accepts Governor's recommendations for amendments on February 22.
