Aqua Beachfront Bar & NOM Tequila Grill Serve Up Green Business

If you're looking to enjoy refreshing ocean breezes and picture perfect panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean while dining on fresh, local fare or would rather just sit savoring a cool glass of wine or a signature cocktail in an upscale bar boarding an oceanfront lanai, the Aqua Beachfront Bar, located inside the lobby of the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach, sets the standard for guests with the most discriminating of tastes.

"As members of the Green Hotel Association, and being located in such proximity to the ocean, the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach has long since recognized the importance of caring for our environment," said Douglas Wood, General Manager.  "It was with that eco-friendly mindset that we applied for our restaurants Aqua Beachfront Bar, and more recently, NOM Tequila Grill, to become City of Ventura Certified Green Businesses." Livin' Green: City's New FREE Water Wise Gardening Class Series Kicks Off

In 2010, the City of Ventura in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation held the first FREE Water Wise Gardening Class Series which was a
imed at informing Ventura Water residents on how theycouldhelp promote environmental sustainability in their landscape, conserve local water resources, reduce green waste production, curb water pollution and protect our oceans, as well as save money on their water bill.  The series was so successful, often times with standing room only, that the City took note that residents were keen on learning more about these water wise topics.

To that end, the City has since procured special grants and community partners to help support and promote the free ongoing class series with classes being held once (sometimes more) a month on Saturday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., except during late summer and the winter holidays, when most residents are unavailable.  READ MORE.
Tips To Keep It Green Back To School

It's well a known fact that educating children at a young age about the environment helps form positive patterns that stick with them for life. Here are some back to school tips that can make a difference!

ONE:  Eat Smart, Healthy and Sustainable
Prepackaged food items generate huge amounts of waste, most of which ends up in the landfill. Avoid overly packaged foods when shopping for lunch items and buy bulk whenever possible. READ MORE.

Weekend Swap Meet at Ventura College Bans Plastic Bags

Fresh, local produce and great deals on items from clothing to furniture and garden plants, are just some of the wares being sold at Ventura College Foundation's Weekend Marketplace, which is free and open to the public and held on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Ventura College on Telegraph Road.  There's just one thing, don't forget to bring your own reusable bag!

As of August 1, 2015, in an effort to support community sustainability, and working together with the City of Ventura's Environmental Sustainability Division, the swap meet and, or as it is officially know, the Ventura College Foundation Marketplace, has banned the plastic bag.

"When the Foundation's executive director and I met with the City's Courtney Lindberg, she explained how the plastic bag ban helps promote community sustainability and we felt so strongly about the many benefits, we knew we had to get on board, even despite the fact that the statewide ordinance has been tabled until after the November 2016 elections," said Esmeralda Juarez, Market Place Supervisor, Ventura College Foundation.
