Lewis Engineering

"Being green should be considered ordinary. When I read about the opportunity to become a certified green business in one of the city newsletters, I jumped on it."

     -Jane Lewis Montague, Lewis Engineering

"Working sustainable is a proud example we can set for other businesses," said Jane Lewis Montague, Principal Engineer and Owner of Lewis Engineering, a public and private sector consulting civil engineering firm. "It's also a way of life that begins in the heart for me."

Employing sustainable practices has been a way of life for Lewis Engineering since its inception in 1974 by Jane's father, George Lewis. Located in downtown Ventura at 1143 E. Main Street, Lewis Engineering celebrates its 40th year in business and its new status as a City of Ventura Green Certified Business. READ MORE.

Mélange Pre-Owned Furnishings & Décor Philosophy? Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

"I've always loved nature and the outdoors," said Cindy Gregory, Owner of downtown Ventura's Mélange, a pre-owned Furnishings & Décor store and a new City of Ventura Green Certified Business. "My love and respect for the environment began at a very young age. One of my first sustainable efforts was belonging to a group called the 'litterbugs'. We'd pick up all the trash we'd find lying on the ground in the neighborhood in order to keep it clean and beautiful."

Today, Cindy has parlayed this practice of picking up and taking on other people's castoffs as a smart environmentally-minded business where reduce, reuse and recycle play an integral part.

"At Mélange, we recycle everything and reuse what we can," said Gregory. "Nothing we sell is wholesale. I buy high quality furniture and home décor items from private parties, estate and garage sales, as well as via the internet and by other means."  READ MORE.

STORMWATER TIP
Keep Ventura Beautiful!

Make sure you pick and dispose of pet waste, cigarette butts and litter in the provided proper receptacles.  If you have used soda cans and plastic  bottles, recycle them at the beach in bins with the blue tops like the one pictured right. These important actions help keep Ventura clean, safe and beautiful by preventing debris and waste from getting into our waterways.
