 | Solarize Ventura - A New Program That Makes Going Solar Simple & Affordable |
Solarize Ventura: Power Your Home with Clean, Renewable Energy
Install a Solar System for your home at a discount from April 17 - July 19, 2014 When you turn on a light, work at the computer, watch television, or blend up your favorite fruit smoothie, you may not think about the fact that all these tasks require energy. The production and flow of energy to your home and work place requires complex infrastructure that requires ongoing maintenance. Over time, this upkeep of energy systems and operations translates into cost increases on your energy bill. Moving forward, how can you possibly ensure your electricity costs will stay the same or even decrease over time? There's a simple, affordable solution. On April 17, 2014, underneath the solar panels at Patagonia's downtown Ventura headquarters, Community Environmental Council's (CEC) in partnership with the City of Ventura announced the new "Solarize Ventura" program. Green Business Profile: The Glass Man Professional Window Washing, Inc.
Dan Glassman is the owner of The Glass Man Professional Window Washing, Inc., as well as a passionate member of 1% For the Planet (a non-profit organization that facilitates businesses in donating to environmental causes). When Dan heard about the City of Ventura's Green Business Certification program from other certified business associates, he knew he had to become a part of the program.
"I'm an outdoor kind of person," said Glassman. "When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time hiking, in the mountains climbing rocks, and enjoying a day at the beach. So for me, becoming green certified is just a natural progression of what I believe personally - that we're all responsible for taking care of this planet and that we have to be proactive about it."
While, ironically, Dan's last name 'Glassman,' suits his profession perfectly, it was his empathy and care for the environment that led him to found his company approximately nine and a half years ago.

Livin' Green: Stop the Toxic Flow Tips to Decrease Urban Runoff
In a natural ecosystem, water sinks into the soil, nourishing plants and trees and flows into rivers, lakes and the ocean. Our cities are built with many hard surfaces such as roads, driveways, parking lots and rooftops that disrupt the natural water cycle. Rainwater or water running off landscapes or driveways picks up all types of debris and toxic substances such as oil, fertilizers, and pesticides, pet waste and other pollutants, and then flows unchecked directly into our stormdrain system and out into our waterways. This "urban runoff" is the number one source of water pollution. READ MORE.
