Beltway Bits: A new feature from the National Capitol Region

Beltway Bits       

This is the first installment of Beltway Bits, a new Wavelengths feature from Jim Bower, our Vice President for Strategic Planning and Business Development and Chief Technology Officer. In this feature Jim will provide commentary on some of the current policies and activities coming from the National Capitol Region that could impact our business activities. The first edition, found on page 15, addresses two hot topics: (1) post sequestration and (2) presidential directives. We hope you enjoy this first edition.
Centerville 8th Graders get Creative with Remote Sensing e-Text

   

The six students shown above attend Tower Heights Middle School in Centerville, Ohio. Their teacher, Mrs. Lynn Bartlett, is participating in the Riverside Research e-Text pilot program currently underway throughout the Dayton region. She challenged her students to select one chapter from our Remote Sensing e-Text (above, right) as the basis for a class project that culminated in a special presentation to our E&T STEM professionals. Everyone, including the teacher, was impressed by the creativity and ingenuity demonstrated in each student presentation. Read More

Riverside Research Awarded Prime Contract for DCGS Task 
The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) made Riverside Research the prime contractor for Task Order 00-7 on the National MASINT Office (NMO) Enterprise Support Services (NESS) contract. With this task award, our team will support DIA's efforts to improve the development, integration, and application of MASINT capabilities within the Distributed Common Ground/Surface (DCGS) System enterprise. First-of-its-kind Peer-Reviewed Journal Premiers Next Month

 

Riverside Research is proud to be the inaugural host of Two Cultures, a peer-reviewed international journal of science, technology, and the humanities with a special focus on human security. Named after the influential Rede Lecture in 1959 by British scientist and novelist, C.P. Snow, Two Cultures aims to facilitate a dialogue where the two cultures - the sciences and the humanities - intersect. Read More

 

The first edition of Two Cultures will be available December 2012; however, a selection of articles and editorials from Vol. 1 No.1, including Dr. Andrew Shepherd's dissertation, "Four-Dimensional Modeling and Simulation for use in Interactive Airspace Training Materials," is available here.    

STAT T&E COE Establishment Ceremony

STAT T&E COE  

With over sixty guests in attendance, The Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques in Test & Evaluation Center of Excellence (STAT T&E COE) was formally Established at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT).

 

"This ceremony underscores the critically important research work and programmatic support our E&T professionals provide to AFIT every day," said Mr. Shawn Kalis, Director of Education and Training. "The efforts of the entire team were recognized by the OSD and AFIT STAT T&E leadership, exemplifying Riverside Research's gold standard of truly supporting our customers by providing technical excellence and trusted solutions." 

 

The central goal of the Center of Excellence is to provide advice and support in the application of scientific test and analysis techniques across the entire Department of Defense (DOD). Read more on page 9.

Cyber Lab released a beta version of the DigR analysis suite

Cyber 

On 6 October 2012, Dr. Adam Bryant, Cyber Research Lab Manager, and the Cyber Lab Reverse Engineers, Jason Cheatham, Brian Krumheuer, and Ron Shinklehe presented a DigR demo to Riverside Research personnel. DigR, a software tool suite, will allow cyber analysts to examine computer software without source code. It also disassembles and debugs executable programs, provides graphical views of a program's control flow, and incorporates heuristics to help analysts find interesting areas of the code.
