Juan Lopez Receives Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan Award | |
Juan Lopez Jr. (pictured above with his son, Joseph) proudly accepted the 2012 Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan Award on 12 October at an annual awards gala hosted by the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission in Downtown Columbus. He was nominated for this award by the Center for Cyberspace Research at the Air Force Institute of Technology where he serves as a Research Engineer. "It's great to be recognized for my work; however, being recognized as a member of a particular culture is even more important," said Juan. "I strongly believe that diversity encourages forward thinking and unity of purpose." Juan, our Senior Technical Expert in Critical Infrastructure Protection, was recently interviewed by CNN Money about ways to safeguard the power grid. Watch it here. Shawn Kalis Joins USGIF Academic Advisory Board | |
Shawn Kalis, Director of our Education and Training Directorate, was selected to join the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) Academic Advisory Board after meeting with Dr. Max Baber, USGIF Director of Academic Programs, at the 2012 GEOINT Symposium. "It's great to add Shawn's expertise to our very talented team," said Dr. Baber. Shawn was also selected to join the USGIF Tradecraft Development Subcommittee to help ensure the GEOINT tradecraft remains at the forefront of homeland and national security. Read more

Riverside Research Takes Leading Role at GEOINT 2012 | |
For the 8th consecutive year, Riverside Research participated in the nation's premier annual intelligence event - the 2012 GEOINT Symposium. Hosted by USGIF, GEOINT 2012 brought more than 4,300 geospatial professionals to Disney World for four full days of insightful keynote addresses, panel discussions, and breakout sessions; invaluable networking opportunities; and a 100,000-sq ft exhibit hall lined with over 200 leading suppliers of geospatial technologies, all focused on "creating the innovation advantage." A total of 23 Riverside Research personnel attended this year's Symposium, including Chief Scientist John Morris who moderated one of the more popular breakout sessions of the week. Rick Bartell, our Senior Technical Expert in optically-based remote sensing, was published in the October 2012 issue of Optical Engineering (Volume 51, Issue 10), a publication of SPIE, the International Society for Optics and Photonics. Co-authored with several former colleagues at the Air Force Institute of Technology's Center for Directed Energy, his paper entitled "Comparison of Coherent and Incoherent Laser Beam Combination for Tactical Engagements" is open access and is available in its entirety here.
