Knox County Driller gushes attention at PRI
Under the hood of the Knox County Driller.

Builder's "dream project" is a stunner on and off the track.

Cool hotrods were not in short supply at PRI 2013, but none received more attention than the "Knox County Driller" in the Sunnen booth. This custom-designed 2010 Challenger is the 2013 MOPAR Top Eliminator for owner/driver Brent Jones of Wheatland, IN, and was a "dream project" for designer/builder Mike Roth of Lebanon, IN.

Jones approached Roth with a carte-blanche opportunity to design and build the super stock racer with a "70's retro look" and Roth immediately drew on a childhood memory of "The Driller" -- a perennial-winning tractor puller at his local fairgrounds. "The memory of The Driller stuck with me and when I found out that Brent is also an oil driller I knew I had the design theme," said Roth.

Engine Sweepstakes yields record ticket sales, donation to Victory Junction
(L-R) David Reher, Reher-Morrison; Bob Davis, Sunnen; Nick, a Victory Junction camper; Wolf Bouwhuis, Sunnen; and Nicole Connor, Victory Junction with the sweepstakes prize.
The 2013 Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes at PRI set new records for ticket sales and size of donation to Victory Junction

This year's sweepstakes took in
$50,683.50, all of which goes to the year-round camp in Randleman, NC that provides life-changing experiences for children from 6 to 16 years old with chronic medial conditions or serious illnesses. The camp was founded by Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie in honor of their son Adam.

The previous record for ticket sales/donation was $47,846, raised at last year's PRI show. "Breaking the $50,000 mark is a milestone achievement for this event," said Bob Davis, Sunnen's Global Communications Manager. "We're proud to support the Victory Junction mission and look forward to breaking the record again next year."

This year's prize was a Reher-Morrison 1200 hp, 583ci, big-block Chevy racing engine valued at $25,000. The engine was built by R-M engineer John Claridge, and took approximately 70 hours to complete. Richard Payne of the House of Payne in Waynesboro, VA took home the prize.

This is the third year that Sunnen and Reher-Morrison have teamed up to raise money for this very good cause. Congratulations to all who made this donation possible, and thank you to all who purchased tickets.

Popular at PRI

The Sunnen SV-20 proved its popularity with engine builders/re-builders at the PRI show, and as one of Sunnen's top selling machines of 2013. One Detriot user says he's never seen a rounder, straighter hole produced by a hone.

The hone's linear servo-stroking technology earned it "star attraction" status at the show, drawing visitors to the Sunnen booth. The machine packs the power and capacity to drive multi-stone diamond tools for OEM-quality bore geometry, making it a natural for cylinder reconditioning.
