Leading Health Indicators Online Lesson Available
Healthy People 2020 recently launched an online lesson featuring the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative, the organization from this month's Leading Health Indicator (LHI) webinar on Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity. Free continuing education credits are available for the lesson.
County Health Ratings Released

Free Online Resources for Community Health Now Available
The National Association of County and City Health (NACCHO) recently announced the availability of the Resource Center for Community Health Assessments (CHAs) and Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs) to support local communities in their community health improvement efforts. This resource center is an online, free, publicly accessible venue that contains over 150 resources, including customizable tools, example high-quality CHAs and CHIPs, and "How-to" Webinars and training materials. USDA Study: School Kids Eating More Fruits, Vegetables
Students at elementary schools participating in USDA's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program consumed 15 percent more fruits and vegetables, based on an evaluation report of the 2010-2011 school year the agriculture department study released recently. Nebraska Bicyclists Gear up for 2013 National Bike Challenge
The Second Annual National Bike Challenge will begin on May 1 and continue through September 30. Last year, Nebraska was third out of the 50 states and the DC area, and Lincoln placed third and Omaha 16th among all U.S. cities. Registration for this year's Challenge is now open to individuals, teams, workplaces, and communities.
Open Streets Omaha presents Play Streets on April 28
Open Streets Omaha will present Play Streets: Get out and Play! at Aksarben Village on April 28th from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Play Streets activates a space normally only usable by cars and transforms it into a space for play and physical activity. Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding Core Measure Toolkit Revised
The United States Breastfeeding Committee toolkit, Implementing The Joint Commission Perinatal Care Core Measure on Exclusive Breast Milk Feeding, has been revised and republished. Part 1 of the toolkit is designed to aid hospitals and maternity facilities in accurate collection of the data needed to comply with the new measure. Part 2 of the toolkit focuses on improving adherence to evidence-based best practices, which is ultimately reflected in rates of exclusive breast milk feeding.

New Data Shows Public Support for Breastfeeding
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation released new data demonstrating the nation's overwhelming public support for breastfeeding. More than 60 percent of Americans polled believe workplaces, hospitals, and other public spaces are key in making breastfeeding easier for moms.
Workplace Toolkit Helps Nursing Moms "Make it Work"
The "Making It Work" Toolkit is a new online resource for breastfeeding mothers returning to work or school. The toolkit is designed to provide assistance to breastfeeding mothers as well as tools and information for businesses and families, specifically addressing the needs of low-wage workers in non-traditional work settings. |
