Happy Trails, Trish!
For the past 9 years, Trish David has served the ITLA as our Manager. She has been a constant source of knowledge and support, and has helped make our organization a success. Anyone who has ever worked with Trish knows her dedication to the ITLA and her love for our membership and breed.
Throughout her years of service Trish remained objective and respectful of everyone's opinions. She has been the consummate professional and has earned the respect of every Texas Longhorn breeder.
Regretfully, I have to announce that Trish has decided to resign from her position with the ITLA, effective August 31, 2016. Please join me in thanking Trish for her years of support and wish her well in her future endeavors.
Gary Don Taylor, via Facebook.
ITLA International Texas Longhorn Association As a former ITLA President I can't say enough about Trish and what she meant to the Association. She wore many hats. She was the face/voice of the ITLA on a daily basis, she was glue that held the Board together, a tremendous resource on the how the ITLA ran administratively. I don't think there is a past ITLA President that wouldn't sing her praises. The best part of Trish, though, is that she is a good friend. She will be missed. Thanks for all you have done, Trish! (This is Larry Lonero. Not sure why my post comes across as an ITLA post. I guess because I helped set up the Facebook account. Got to get that fixed! Still learning FB!)
Gary Lake ITLA has had a reputation of being customer (breeder) friendly since its inception 26 years ago and no one has shown that positive spirit more than Trish! :) She has a way with people that any organization would be blessed to have. We wish her the best in whatever the future holds and THANK YOU TRISH for 9 great years as the face and voice of ITLA. Also a grateful thank you to the directors that are leaving for their unselfish time donated to our organization. Thanks to folks like these and those coming on, our future for ITLA is bright!
Jodi King Trish has helped us many times these last years and she will be greatly missed. We wish her the best. We also thank all the directors for their hard work. We know some of you more than others. I know you have spent countless hours this year and we thank you....(continued)

Great Lakes Texas Longhorn Association Meeting
Hi! We had a great meeting at the home of Jim and Rebekah Lehrbass. They welcomed all of us (even the Canadians, haha) to their home near Ludington, MI and provided us with some AMAZING food and some beautiful Longhorns.
We had a few new visitors and some we hadn't seen in a while. We discussed several things, including supporting the upcoming ITLA show in Indiana. We look forward to seeing you all there. There were more discussions on the possibility of having a registered longhorn sale closer to the Great Lakes region and supporting the Winchester Futurity of the North.
It was just a great day for all to get with our fellow breeders and check out cows. Don't forget we have new t-shirts for sale. Joshua Shaw will be representing the GLTLA at the Indiana show, and he will have some shirts available there!!
Our next meeting will be the branding party at the home of Dick and Peg Lowe on November 5, 2016 at noon. This is the big one for elections and setting next years meeting so please mark your calendars now!! Please let Dick know if you plan on bringing cattle to brand so he can plan accordingly.
Hope you all enjoy what is left of summer and see you at the branding party this fall!! Missy Hicks, Treasurer, GLTLA

ORVTLA Meeting and Meal
The Ohio River Valley Texas Longhorn Association (ORVTLA) held a meeting at Andy and Amber Dunmire's farm August 20th. We enjoyed a meal together and looked over their Texas Longhorns. We discussed the success of our ITLA show held in July and began making plans for our 2017 ITLA show.
Next year will be the ORVTLA's 20th annual show. We plan on making it a show to remember. It will also be at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in July of 2017. Hope to see many of you there.
There was also much discussion about the upcoming ITLA Championship Show in Coverdale, Indiana. Many of our members are planning to participate in the show and many are working to make it a success. We look forward to seeing many of our friends from around the country there in October!

Rocky Mountain Select Sale Success
A full house, even cooler than normal August weather and terrific cattle helped make the 18th annual Rocky Mountain Select Texas Longhorn Sale and Winchester Futurity and great Colorado weekend. Held August 5-6 at Latigo Trails Equestrian Center near Colorado Springs, the sale featured cattle from 37 Longhorn breeders representing 13 states and averaged just over $3,200 on 87 lots sold.
The sale's Volume Buyer was Pete Kourtis of Oklahoma ($31,150 on nine purchases), followed by fellow Oklahoman John Viskup ($22,500 on 10 purchases). Other top buyers included Austin and Taylor Rohr of Whitehouse, Texas; Russell and Jamie Freeman of Yoder, Colorado; Alexandra Dees of Harper, Oregon; Mike and Linda Metcalfe of Boone, Colorado; Lynn Struthoff and Josie Becker of San Antonio, Texas; the Searle/Lakde Partnership of Monument, Colorado; TJ, Tammy and Linda Farnsworth of Mountain Home, Utah and Bill and Michelle Smith of Marshall, Missouri. (SEE ARTICLE BELOW FOR MORE RESULTS)
The RMSS partnered with the Semper Fi Fund for the second year in a row, raising over $9,000 for the cause which benefits disabled vets from all military branches. The surprise home run Semper Fi donation was a kids' farm set donated by Dale and Janet Eppard of Mi Tierra Ranch of Joplin, Missouri. The farm's owners had "come on some hard times", according to auctioneer Joel Lemley, and someone was needed to step in and "save the farm".
Despite participation from over a dozen donors, the farm was foreclosed upon and had to be re-sold. G&G Longhorns of Virginia finally "bought the farm", so to speak, and deeded it to the youngest person in the room which turned out to be four-month-old Kasen Evans of Ellicott, Colorado. Other Semper Fi donors included Mike and Kim MacLeod of Palo Pinto, Texas, Kevin and Jodi Bryant of Camargo, Oklahoma and James and Paula Wilkins of Ben Wheeler, Texas.

Sale sponsors included Phil Long Ford of Chapel Hills in Colorado Springs, Cuvala Construction of Monument, Colorado, CR Longhorns of Harper, Oregon, John and Darlene Nelson's Cloverbloom Ranch of Wellington, Colorado, 7-11 Ranch of Mountain Home, Utah and Brett and Darcy DeLapp's Cliffhanger Genetics of Sheridan, Wyoming.
"It was a great weekend, thanks to our consignors, our buyers, our sponsors and everyone working out front and behind the scenes to make it happen" says sale host Stan Searle of Monument, Colorado. "Joel Lemley and his wife Shirley did a terrific job, and the internet sales handled by the Hired Hand crew [Molly Clubb and Jaymie Feldmann] made a big contribution to the sale's success.
Kenny Backstrand and the Latigo Grill catering crew did a terrific job with the Friday night dinner (which included music from Charlie Searle and the Ashtōnz, with a guest appearance from vocalist and "Longhorn girl" Marlene Reynolds of Yoder, Colorado).
We may have had the best overall quality cattle yet, which will make this year's sale a tough act to follow. We're up for the challenge, though ... we'll see you August 4 and 5 next year."

Chewing the Cud
Old Jerry Jim Bob was having some financial troubles, and was contemplating his life and trying to understand the nature of God, so he asked him: "God, how long is a million years to you?"
God answered, "A million years is like a minute." Then he asked, "God, how much is a million dollars to you?" And God replied, "A million dollars is like a penny." Encouraged, Jerry Jim Bob asked, "God...will you give me a million dollars?" And God replied, "Sure, just a minute."
