Longhorn Sighting: 'Tis the Season...for Politics
When Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and the National Western Stock Show needed 'street talent' to promote Ballot initiative 2C, they called on the symbol of the Old West and the Icon of the National Western...The Texas Longhorn!
Shoot Em Up (aka Larimer) is starring in several TV commercials and print ads along with Social media, to encourage Denver to vote 'Yes on 2C'.  Shoot Em Up is a 2008 grandson of the great Zhivago. Weighing in at over a ton and gentle as a Labrador puppy, he was the perfect choice for downtown Denver!

Canadian Affiliate (CTLA) Holds Horn Showcase

The Canadian Texas Longhorn Association held its annual Horn Showcase and Select Sale in Ponoka, Alberta on Sept. 26.  A good crowd was on hand for the horn measuring and keen interest was evident as the cattle were measured and walked through the ring in front of the bleachers.

There were some impressive cattle in the competition with Hunt's Dash For Cash, exhibited by Meridian Longhorns of Stony Plain, AB, leading the way with his spectacular horns.

The third and final show of the Triple Crown Futurity was held.  Winning the championship was RG Presumed Innocent 44B and MSW Candy Cane taking reserve honors.  Thank you to Ray Bear Davidson and Mark Johnson for judging the event.

The overall Triple Crown championship was won by MSW Candy Cane based on points accumulated at three shows held in Saskatoon, SK in April, Red Deer, AB in July and the Ponoka show.  The reserve championship went to RG Presumed Innocent 44B.  The suspense was evident as the judges made their final selection.  Congratulations to all the exhibitors for making the first Triple Crown Futurity a fun and interesting event.

The Select Sale hosted a capacity crowd with a solid offering drawing strong and steady prices.  The auctioneer was Dean Edge who conducted a snappy sale with bred cows averaging $2461, yearling heifers $3000, calves $1050 and bulls $2900.  The high selling lot was the 5 year old bull Fugitive who brought $3700 for 3/4 interest and full possession selling to Jack Johnson of Red Deer, AB.  Several donation lots including semen, a longhorn European mount skull, advertising in the Trail Blazer news letter and other fun items were auctioned to raise money for the CTLA.

Pictures from the event can be seen on the CTLA Facebook page
Thank you all the buyers and bidders that made the day such a success.

Clinton Bezan, CTLA President

Chewing the Cud

The American doctor parked his brand new Lexus right in front of the hospital, ready to show it off to his colleagues. As he got out, an ambulance came along too close to the curb and completely tore off the driver's door.

Jim Bob was just about to get into his pickup truck when it happened.  But, before he had a chance to see if he was okay, the doctor started screaming hysterically about how his Lexus, which he had just picked up the day before, was now completely ruined and would never be the same, no matter how the body shop tried to make it new again.

After the doctor finally wound down from his rant, Jim Bob just shook his head in disgust and disbelief. He had never seen city folk in such a tizzy.  "I can't believe how materialistic you doctors are, " he said. "You are so focused on your possessions you neglect the most important things in life."

"How can you say such a thing?" asked the doctor.

Jim Bob replied, "Don't you even realize your left arm is missing? It got ripped off when the ambulance hit you!!!"

"OH, NOOO!  I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!" screamed the doctor....... "MY ROLEX IS GONE!"
