NETLA's 10th Anniversary Sale a Success!
 |
Congratulations to Dan and Paula New on their purchase of the High Selling Lot
at the 10th Anniversary NETLA sale!
Lot #10 Royal Prize was consigned by Dru & Toni Knopsnider
|
The 10th Anniversary Sale hosted by the Northeast Texas Longhorn Association (NETLA) was held on June 7, 2014 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
The sale preview was Friday evening, and guests enjoyed a fabulous BBQ buffet prepared by Thomas Budd Bar B Que.
Seventy five head of registered Texas Longhorns and a nice selection of ropers were offered to a full house of enthusiasts on Saturday. High selling lot was Royal Prize, a 3 year old heifer consigned by Toni and Dru Knopsnider. She was purchased for $2100.00 by the New family of Windy Timber Farm.
We had a tremendous amount of support from Longhorn breeders from all over the U.S. who bid on donated heifers from Sunhaven Farm (the Wachters) and Crazy Cattle Company (the Pequinots).
The proceeds went to raise money for NETLA Youth wishing to attend and show cattle at the 2014 Convention in Oklahoma City. Additional funds will be used for the youth throughout the show season as well.
Over $3500.00 was raised for our kids! Thank you to everyone who donated silent and live auction items to add to the cause!
This annual sale is a wonderful chance for breeders on the east coast to sell cattle, or add to their herds. Our sale committee thanks all our members and friends who came out and worked to make this a huge success!
Here's just a few of the candids from a great day!

Make your Plans and Enter Your Best Critters: ORVTLA Texas Longhorn Show
Saturday July 19th 2014
submitted by Darol Dickinson
You have time, but time is quickly coming up to attend and compete in the ORVTLA annual show. It is the biggest Texas Longhorn event in the cattle industry, for the state of Ohio, of the year. We have full show info available along with motels, entry info, the whole enchilada.
The ORVTLA is for Ohio Texas Longhorn producers and those in joining states. To join ORVTLA is a good thing for promotion of your cattle and the breed. Many who compete have never attended a Texas Longhorn show before. Even though you may think you aren't experienced, others will be just like you -- or worse.
To be in the TL business and miss this show is like Obama playing golf and forgetting his clubs, or Bo, or Biden. No angus cattle will be competing so it will be safe for spectators -- no one will get hurt. Attendance is free for all, even freshly released parking meter violators. Food, kids, dogs, relatives, Texas Longhorns, (dirt for kids to play in) free parking, and even a real western bovine bingo where thousands of dollars in value is up for grabs.
Make plans and enter your best critters. Make motel reservations. Bathe the grand kids. Your cattle will thank you for it.

Longhorns mosey through downtown Amarillo
By Laura Ness
laura.ness@amarillo.com
The Coors Cowboy Club wrangled 30 Texas Longhorn cattle up and down the streets of downtown Amarillo and to the Tri-State Fairgrounds on Thursday evening to kick off its Ranch Rodeo.
"Not many people have seen a cattle drive that live in this area," said Ed Montana, an original club member. "This is what Amarillo is!"
The cowboys guided the Longhorns past historic downtown sites as photographers took their best shots of the cattle drive for a chance to win a $1,000 prize. (For your chance to win, go to amarillo.com for full contest rules.)
Many children expressed excitement as the bovines made their way down city streets, while people walked out of downtown restaurants and shops to catch a glimpse of the spectacle.
"I thought it was a cool thing to be able to bring the kids out and let them actually see the longhorns up close," Sean Braselton said.
"It's kind of a glimpse into our past here in the Texas Panhandle."
The cowboys had to keep their eyes close to the wandering cattle.
Some of the Longhorns got a little impatient, while other strayed from the herd to try to chomp a few plants.
When the procession finally finished, the cattle were "talking" up a storm.
After getting some water, the Longhorns stuck around for a few more photos.
Montana said he thought the cattle drive offered a new experience for residents.
"There's a lot of people that live in Amarillo, Texas, that go to Palo Duro Canyon and say 'Wow I've never been here before,'" he said. "They've never seen a cattle drive, either!"

Chewing the Cud...
It had been a terrible accident on the ranch, and Billy Jim-Bob had suffered a massive blow to the head, causing a near fatal brain injury. The patient's family gathered to hear what the specialists had to say.
"Things don't look good. The only chance is a brain transplant. This is an experimental procedure. It might work, but the bad news is that brains are very expensive, and you will have to pay the costs yourselves."
"Well, how much does a brain cost?" asked the relatives.
"If he were a female, a brain from the organ donor pool would only be $1,000.00."
"We don't understand, how much would a male brain cost?" asked the relatives.
"Well, a male brain would be well over three million dollars."
Some of the younger male relatives tried to look shocked, but the men looked at each other and nodded in understanding, and a few actually smirked. Then the patient's daughter asked, "Why the difference in price between male brains and female brains?"
"It's standard pricing practice," said the head of the team. "Pristine, like-new condition commands a premium -- Men's brains are virtually unused."
