Around the Campfire...
| 2011 ITLA President Roger Hutton |
Over the past couple of years as I talked to breeders around the country it became apparent that breeders do not feel that the breed leadership has helped them with marketing their lower quality and end of life cattle. So when I ran for President of
ITLA I committed to take a leadership role on this effort. I want to take this opportunity to report to you on what has been accomplished on this initiative...read the full letter... |
Saddling up Support for ITLA
In a demonstration of great generosity, Roland West of Odessa, MO donated a classic custom saddle to benefit the ITLA Building Fund. Auctioned off at the Legacy sale, the fully hand tooled saddle was the object of spirited bidding and when Bruce McCarty's hammer fell, the proud owners were Richard and Jeanne Filip of Bentwood Ranch at Fayetteville, TX. Their winning bid was $4,000, all of which will go toward paying off the Association headquarters building at Glen Rose, TX....Click Here to read more...

HATLA Booth Day
The Houston Area Texas Longhorn Association (HATLA) booth at The Houston Livestock Show today usually has an army of photographers taking pictures of The Texas Longhorns. But recently, they had the Army AND photographers enjoying the beautiful Texas Longhorns!
| HATLA Army and Photographers |
While Carol Gentz 'womaned' the Houston Area Texas Longhorn Association booth, James showed folks how easy it is to ride a Texas Longhorn Steer as the army of photographers snapped away. Frank and Michelle Hevrdejs corralled the star of the show so Houston area kids could pet a Texas Longhorn. Even when the calf was resting people were 2-3 deep around the booth. Kaitlyn and Bill kept the Texas Longhorns shining and Richard Scalzitti handled other duties. Then Bobby took them home...

Longhorns Down Under
Horseshoe B Longhorns, owned by Michael and Lynda Bethel of Charter Towers, Queensland, Australia have been artificially breeding their registered Texas Longhorn herd with top US sires, and now have several great examples of the best horn quality. At ITLA, we enjoy the Bethel's as members and appreciate all the Australian Texas Longhorn producers who register their herds with ITLA.
This beautiful red steer is 107" tip to tip on his sixth birthday. This may not be a world record, but it could be. Regardless of the records, this steer may go well past 130" in his senior years.
We commend the Texas Longhorns Australia Inc., on the formation of their association, the Horny Herald publication, and the success of their first Texas Longhorn sale. Some excellent genetics are being used in Australia and the best is yet to come. |
