WCAIWCAI Airs "Waste Goes Where?" Series

This week, WCAI launched a news series exploring
where our trash goes, and where it probably shouldn't called, "Waste Goes Where? A Look at our Region's Trash Troubles."  The four-part series looks at how Cape Codders dispose of trash, where our recyclables end up, how some hazardous items are being dumped in the woods, and new efforts to divert food scraps from our waste stream.  Click on the links below to listen:

FoodFood Waste Discussions & Composting Training Held at Barnstable County

Over the past several months, the Cape Cod Composting Network has been meeting regularly to discuss how we can divert more of our food waste from landfills and incinerators.  The CCCN is a small group of local officials, compost facility operators, trash haulers, and interested citizens with a goal of increasing the Cape's food waste infrastructure (composing and anaerobic digestion).  The meetings are open to public and we welcome new participants. Please email me if you are interested in being included on our email distribution list.

On May 23, the CCCN hosted two events at the Barnstable County Harborview Conference Room - a dialogue meeting with local stakeholders and a technical workshop on commercial composting for facility managers (offered by MassDEP & Recycling Works). If you weren't able to make the technical workshop, but would still like assistance with your composting operation, help is available.  You can contact RecyclingWorks in Massachusetts at (888) 254-5525 or by email at info@recyclingworksma.com.
