I am trying out a new newsletter format.  Since most people these days read emails on their phones, I am switching to a more mobile-friendly template.  Love it? Hate it?  Let me know.  -Dave

DEPMassDEP Grants

The Grant Application is Live!

MassDEP recently held two webinars to assist municipalities with the application process and to go over the offerings for the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program Grant (SMRP). If you missed your webinar, click on this link to find the PowerPoint presentations, and the links to the recorded webinars.

SMRP Municipal Grants offer funding to cities, towns and regional entities - as well as certain non-profit organizations that provide services to them - for recycling, composting, reuse and source reduction activities that will increase diversion of municipal solid waste and household hazardous waste from disposal. Grants are available for recycling and composting equipment; mattress recycling; Pay-As-You-Throw programs; waste reduction enforcement; school recycling; and organics capacity development projects.  Details about the SMRP grant, including the Grant Guidance document can be found here.

The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Applications have to be submitted electronically online via Re-TRAC Connect. Please contact me with questions or to discuss your ideas!

TRP2Join MassDEP and The Recycling Partnership Webinar for another quality-improving webinar:

For professional recyclers, improving recycling quality has become job one. The question is: How do we get there reliably, cost effectively, and quickly?
Several communities in Massachusetts are currently piloting a program geared to answer that question. The program, and this webinar, are part of a MassDEP-funded endeavor to build, test, and deliver tools that will fine tune quality for communities across the Commonwealth.

At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, join representatives from West Springfield and Lowell, along with a seasoned municipal assistance coordinator (MAC) and a rep from national nonprofit The Recycling Partnership, as they walk through their approach to boosting quality.

Learn early findings from the field. Hear about two other communities that are launching pilots shortly. Find out what all of this means for you in terms of resources to ratchet up your recycling stream. Register Here.

TextilesTextile Recovery Toolkit is Now Available

Developed by the Secondary Materials & Recycled Textiles Association (SMART) in support of the MassDEP Textile Recovery Initiative, these materials are designed to help Massachusetts cities and towns promote textile recovery and stage successful textile collecti
on events.

Click Here to access the resources available through this toolkit!  Keep in mind that these tools can help you earn a Bonus Point in the Recycling Dividends Grant Program (RDP) if you already qualify for the minimum 6 points.  The requisite number of textile recovery activities must be completed between June 15, 2015 and June 15, 2016 in order to be eligible for this year's grant cycle.  Programs completed after that date will be eligible for next year's grant cycle. To access this year's RDP worksheet that includes textile bonus point requirements, click here.
