Webinar: Join MassDEP and The Recycling Partnership

Recycling programs are succeeding in recovering impressive amounts of material, but along the way quality has taken a hit. While that would be a concern in the best of times, poor markets and tight fiscal realities make it really problematic, to the point of potentially affecting the health and bottom line of recycling programs.

MassDEP and national nonprofit The Recycling Partnership are joining forces with communities across the Commonwealth to diagnose the root causes of contamination, then build out and vet tools to eliminate the issues at their core. Here's where that effort starts.

On Wednesday, February 24, 2 pm - 3:30 pm, join representatives from MassDEP, Casella, Waste Management, Springfield DPW, and The Recycling Partnership on a quality-focused webinar to dispel some basic - and not so basic - myths and start talking about solutions.

STEP 2:  Complete this SURVEY  before the webinar and share your views, efforts, ideas and concerns around quality. Together we can identify needs and build solutions.

STEP 3.  Watch for more webinars, tools, funding, and results in the months to come.

Textile RecoveryRDP Bonus Point and Webinars

MassDEP has announced a new opportunity in the 2016 Recycling Dividends Program.  MassDEP is offering a bonus point for completing a set of activities that promote the diversion of textiles from the trash.  Once your municipality has earned the six (6) points required to qualify for RDP, you are eligible to earn the bonus point by completing certain related activities between June 15, 2015 and June 15, 2016.  Please see the activity list for the documentation you will need to submit with your RDP application this coming June.

To help you earn your Bonus Point, MassDEP is offering two different free webinars:

Webinar #1 - "Earning the Textile Recovery RDP Bonus Point": Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at 11:00 am - 12 noon.  We'll walk you through the activities and answer your questions. Please register here .

Webinar #2 - "Promoting Textile Recovery with MassDEP's Media Toolkit": Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 1:00 - 2:00 pm.  Participating in this webinar counts towards your BONUS POINT.   This webinar  will show you how to access and use professionally produced press releases, guest editorials and public service announcements to get media attention for your community's textile recovery programs. The webinar is a collaboration between MassDEP and the Secondary Materials & Recycled Textiles Association (SMART) and will be presented by Josie Hankey, a media relations specialist at the Fallston Group LLC .  Please register here .
