MassDEP Grant Reporting Reminders

There are two annual reports that are required in order to stay in compliance with the conditions of the SMRP Grant Agreements.  Both are accessed and submitted using your municipality's ReTRAC account.  The existing account for your municipality must be used.  Please contact me if you do not know who the ReTRAC account holder is for your city/town.

  1. The Calendar Year 2015 Recycling and Solid Waste survey will be available on ReTRAC as of January 4, 2016 and due by February 15th.  If you have received a SMRP grant in the last 2 years, you are required to submit this report.  If you intend to apply for another SMRP grant in April 2016, this report is required.   All others are encouraged to submit.
  1. The Calendar Year 2015 Recycling Dividends Program (RDP) Annual Report will also be available on ReTRAC as of January 4, 2016 and due by February 15th.  If you were awarded funds under this program, this report is required.
Tina Klein at MassDEP the point person for any questions about the SMRP required reports. She can be reached at (617) 292-5704.

Food Waste Subcommittee Formed

The first meeting of the County's Food Waste  Subcommittee (part of the Health Agents Coalition) took place on November 20th; members discussed the goals they hope to achieve over the next several months, including identifying potential compost facility locations, determine how much food waste is available to divert from the waste stream, and develop better end market's for compost.

The group consists of local solid waste haulers, health agents, County officials, and compost facility operators.  We would love to have some representation on the committee from transfer station/DPW operators; let me know if you'd like to participate.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 6th, from 10-11am at the Barnstable County Complex.  Please email me at dquinn@barnstablecounty.org if you would like to join us.
