Two Statewide Recycling Bills Introduced
The non-profit group MassRecycle is currently supporting two bills that seek to increase recycling in Massachusetts.
Universal Recycling Bill (HD 2913):- All residences, businesses and institutions required to separate recyclable materials that are banned from disposal from their trash, and to make arrangements for it to be recycled.
- All waste haulers to offer parallel recycling service to all customers, and to report data as requested by MassDEP.
- DEP to develop informational materials about the UR Law to be distributed by local authorities and haulers to their customers.
- The bill gives MassDEP and Health Boards authority to enforce these provisions on generators and haulers at the point of generation.
- Click here to read the proposed bill
- Requires public agencies and state-owned properties, high-traffic private properties, and municipalities to offer public space recycling in public areas and open spaces.
- Only applies if public waste removal service is offered.
- Tiered requirements to account for the unique challenges of each type of entity.
