THE GREEN TEAM is an interactive educational program that empowers students and teachers to help the environment through waste reduction, recycling, composting, energy conservation and pollution prevention. Participating classes receive certificates of recognition and are eligible to win awards.

PAYT on Cape Cod: Designing a SMART Waste Management System

On Saturday, March 1st, DSM Environmental Services, Inc. facilitated a regional workshop on Pay-As-You-Throw, or SMART, programs for Save Money And Reduce Trash. The workshop focused on program design, barriers to implementation, and reviewed the results of programs around the state and county.

Pay-As-You-Throw on Cape Cod: Designing a SMART Waste Management System

Through funding from the Massachusetts Recycling Challenge, DSM is available for additional technical assistance at no cost to the towns.

MassDEP Steps Up Waste Ban Compliance Strategy with New Inspectors: Issues 101 Enforcement Actions to Violators

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has stepped up its enforcement of solid waste disposal bans, issuing 98 notices of non-compliance and three waste ban penalties over the past year for violations involving the improper disposal of significant amounts of recyclable and recoverable materials. The list of violators covers a wide spectrum of public and private institutions, including the food and retail sectors, educational and medical facilities and waste haulers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. CY2013 surveys are available online:

If you have not already done so, please fill out the survey with solid waste and recycling data from CY2013. Data from this municipal survey provides useful public information about state-wide trends and the effectiveness of municipal recycling programs. The survey is also required to be eligible for MassDEP grants.
Hidden Hazards in the Art Studio

Hidden Hazards in the Art Studio is a program offered by Barnstable County that informs artists on how to create vibrant art while protecting themselves, their family and pets, and the environment.

: an education suite of literature (brochure, magnet, poster for schools, poster for veterinary offices); 3 video PSAs; a website full of information on less toxic alternatives, ventilation, PPE, labeling and safety data sheets, and more; and an informational workshop/conversation available to your BOH, Hazardous Waste Managers, and local art associations, and finally, a survey located on the web for the services provided.
