Summer produce still lingers sweetly at the Falmouth Farmers' Market. Corn will hang on until we get frost. But as the weather turns cooler, we are returning to our roots: carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, leeks, beets, Jerusalem artichokes, and turnips.  Zucchini and summer squashes are gradually ceding to their tougher-skinned relatives--butternut and acorn squash, and the many colorful squashes of fall. Lots of greens, too, and crisp apples and pears. Make the most of our last two Thursday markets on October 3 and October 10. Hours: 11 am to 5 pm. Location: Peg Noonan Park on Main St. Our holiday markets this year: Tuesday, November 26, just before Thanksgiving, and Saturday, December 7, the weekend of Falmouth's Holidays-By-The-Sea. Inquire about holiday turkeys at Da Silva Farms' market table or call 508-548-1248.

At the Harwich Farmers' Market, abundant fall produce includes apples, cranberries, pumpkins, squash and more.  Regular season ends Thursday, October 10, 3-6 p.m. with a fall finale on Sunday, October 20, from noon to 3 p.m.  Brooks Academy Museum is open through the market season and features a display of works by famed bird carver A. Elmer Crowell.
